Re: AGX Autosports in Portland Oregon... (Rabbit 16v)

I understand an engine swap isn't just an overnight ordeal, that's why I originally gave them 2 weeks. On the first I said I wanted the car, and that I needed it by the 14th. On the 12th they said it wouldn't be done. I called my brother's care taker, and she said she could go a couple more days without a car. I told them they'd have till the night of the 16th, morning of the 17th to have it done. It ended up being "okay, I'll drive her around, just have it done by the 18th."
So in the end, I gave them an extra 4 days.
I also understand that shop labor is expensive, and they hugely underestimated the time it would take, but they agreed to have the car to me for $500. They shouldn't be making deals like that if they're losing money.
My point is that I got treated like CRAP after I gave them an extra 4 days, on top of the 2 weeks that they originally had to put a motor and tranny in a car.
In the end, the car was done in 2 days. They even took in more cars AFTER I made a deal with them, and started working on these cars before they even started mine.

I think you're lucky you didn't get the sh*t beat out of you. $500 is cheap.... and probably not their first priority because they aren't making much money for the amount of effort involved. if I owned the shop I would've kicked you out a long time ago.

And this is why you don't own a shop.
Being a business owner myself and being in a self employed family all my life I can tell you that if you tell a client you are going to do something you better damn well do it. Never promise something you can't deliver, I don't care if you need to stay up untill 4am to do it you make sure it's done. If you don't want to stay up that late then don't promise something you can't deliver. That's just part of owning a business.

well all of this sucks they should do better customer service and i can say 500 is cheap but if u say u are going to do something and for a set price and a set time do it

Re: AGX Autosports in Portland Oregon... (v dub boy)

Ok, this is Mike from AGX, I don't really work here because I don't get paid. This shop is a small business that does what it can to make ends meet.
The deal with the car was, he asked about the car, we said ya we could do it. We could get it done if he wanted it. We did say ya we'll do what we can to get it done. All that is true.
Hears our side of the story.
First off Mike (v dub boy) and Crazy dub damn near live here. They come in here all the time. And thats totally cool. Whatever people like to hang out around the shop. He made a point to ask about the car one day. It was a car that we needed to get rid of.
My motor was originally in that car. Side note ( sold that motor, 2.0 aba stock bottom end, cams, valve job etc... to one of his friends for $700 bucks out the door) Which he also said we screwed him because the car he put it in, the wiring was shot on and made it impossible to properly tune. On threats of people removing the motor from that car without permission ( stealing ) I ripped the motor out fairly quickly. I honestly wasn't to gentle. Things were cut that shouldn't have I'll admit that, nothing to serious, mostly hoses. The car wasn't a priority to get a motor, and its by no means a car that people would jump to buy.
After the car sat for about 2 months, he made the offer. If you have ever been to AGX, you'ld know there are 2 actual "employees" Josh and Scott. I just kinda help out when I can. Josh and I both did tell him it wouldn't be a problem. Because at the time, things weren't too busy, and it would be a fairly easy swap. But since I had pulled the motor out over a month prior, things weren't the way we expected. I.E. parts weren't where I left them, bolts misplaced. Which I'll admit freely, my bad. Like I said, I ripped the motor out fast after we started hearing rumors of the motor being stolen since it was in the back of our parking lot.
So over the two weeks, things came up, no lie. People came in for quick little jobs, things got done. There was 1 day where things were slow, and those days were spent trying to catch up on house keeping. Ask Mike he'll even tell you that, a lot of the time he came by we spent cleaning, no mention of the car. I'm assuming whenever his mom brought it up, that was when it was priority.
Anyways, the 14th came and went, and ya we didn't get it done, but that wasn't an issue then. His mom called talked to me, I explained, hey we've been busy I apoligized, and said I hope we can work something out. She was clear the car was no longer wanted. Josh was making plans to work on the motor that night, but he was told by me the car wasn't wanted anymore. The next day which was was the 17th Scott and Mike ( v dub boy ) talked and they decided that the motor/car was wanted after all. Scott told him, that by friday @ 5;00 the car would roll out of here done.
Keep in mind we also voluntered to give him a loaner car for the day we didn't have it done, but since the person who was to drive the car around, wasn't a licensed driver, and didn't have insurance, that was passed on. Scott spent all day the 17th, and the next day filling in all the blanks. Mike voluntered to help out, since Josh has been really sick the past week. He offered to get parts, and Scott said ok, go get this stuff, and we'll start working on the car in the morning.
All things said and done, We purchased about 500 dollars in parts to get a complete motor in the car, and fix all the problems I had caused ( cut hoses .) After all was said and done, the car total value we were in the car was about 590 bucks. A comment was made that dang this car is worth like 600 bucks. We should sell it for 6 now, not a serious comment but yes it was made.
The linkage, actually went like this, Mike jumped in and put the linkage on, but first the linkage was put on wrong, second it was put on with metal ties, which Josh couldn't see and that was what got Josh fired up. He asked mike to come fix the linkage, which probably wasn't said to nicely, but he was fired up because it was done wrong, and he wasn't really even asked to put it on. Then mike blew up about how the car should have been done by the 14th. Which that issue was already addressed. Josh which has been sick, and pushed to finish the car quickly, was at his end. The car wasn't a priority, until the last minute. Mike basically told Josh to stick the car where the sun doesn't shine. And that pushed Josh over the edge. Told him to get out. Mike blew up some more, so did Josh. Keep in mind he isn't a regular customer. He's been here almost everyday for the past month. He chills here when ever he wants, we considered him a friend. I'll be the first one to admit. things went kind of crappy on the deal. I called him and tried to apoligize for what happened, and all I got was about how it should have been done, and I got yelled at. I said don't yell at me this isn't my deal. And then I blew up and said screw you and w/e. I'll admit I blew up, and I basically told him not to freak out on me, he wouldn't like what would happen. Basically this was a bad deal, things went down wrong on both ends, but things that were resolved got brought back up again and again. Including in this post.
It sucks it came down to this, cool people. Too bad, whatever thats kind of my side of the story, but scott and Josh have their own sides, I just felt something needed to be said to defend them a little. But in all honestly this whole situation is BS, mothers getting called, stories exchanged all over like a friggin phone game. Its just a bad story.
Sorry for such a long post, but hey... its kinda crappy.

funny thing though, crazydub hangs out down there pretty much everyday now from what I hear. What a change of heart.

My thoughts as well. What kind of reliability can you possibly expect from a company who has Brian Z (crazydub) as their official spokesperson.

Re: AGX Autosports (GTI-337)

About the shift linkage...I was ASKED to take the shift linkage off of a car that had been sitting at the shop for awhile by the owner. I went, took it off, and tried to hand it to him. He looked at me and said "go put it on the Golf." I went and installed it to the best of my knowledge (I accidentaly put it in upside down.)
I showed the owner, and he said we needed cauter keys for each end. We looked and looked and he told me to figure something out. I used two small pieces of metal wire as cauter keys.
When I was asked to do it, after I had been under the car bolting up the downpipe and doing other jobs that nobody else really wanted to do, I simply told the mechanic "Why don't you do it? The car was supposed to be mine 4 days ago." That was it. Only AFTER the mechanic said "GET OUT! THE DEALS OFF!" did I tell him to stick the car. Then things escalated.
I really don't think it's fair for gonebored to come and comment on things, when he was not even at the shop and looking for the title to the car, and didn't see what was happening where we were.
About my mom being called. She actually called me and asked to talk to gonebored. She felt she was treated rudely, and didn't want the car. I relayed this message. She then called me again, and wanted to know what had happened. I chose to tell her because it's her money that's buying the car, not mine. I only found the car for my brother's care taker.
Back to the story...She told me to give them another chance after I had left the shop, and told me to go talk to the owner the next morning to see if he'd try to make things right, which he tried to do by busting his ass and having me help him when I could.
This wasn't one of those "oh I feel bad so I'm calling my mommy." My mom was buying the car, I was simply the middle man.

FYI, cotter pins ARE NOT what is used on each end of the linkage. They are special clips. These clips are intended to be reused, cotter pins are not.

I did not know this...and neither did the owner of the shop. He told me "we need 2 cotter pins for each end of the shift linkage."

Paperclips http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Actually, you could probably make one of those big paper clips to mimic the original clips. Just would require some creative bending. Oh and paperclips would last longer that cotter pins

Re: AGX Autosports (v dub boy)

ok well since gonebored wasn't there i guess i could post that i was there and i will stand bye what goneboard has said... i did not understand what had happened but when standing next to the car while the were working on it i understood that the linkage was the last thing needed to do.. and since the mechanic did not put it in he did not understand the ties on the linkage others might say jimmy riged on the linkage but any ways so in the mechanics own way he asked mike to get out there and take it off mind you that the mechanic has had the flu for a week now with only one day off plus not making any money on the deal i think there was a bit of misunderstanding in what was needed to be done... i don't understand why something small would turn into a great big deal And crazydub is not there official spokes person on another note get ahold of agx any of them would be glad to talk to you and also give you some info on TSDNW

Re: AGX Autosports in Portland Oregon... (BimmerBalla14)

This is why I don't ever go to GTG's or anything like that.
No offense but it seems like the pacNW community is horrible.
