What's the biggest engine that can be dropped into a Cabrio? I'm assuming that 1992+ is the same as 2000+ engines. If you've done a bigger engine, give an idea of cost and how you went about it...
Thanks!

Re: 2000 Cab Engines (Graystone)

You can squeeze an R32 engine there if you really want, but your pockets better be deep. In my mind bigger isn't always better after all you have to think of weight and cornering characteristics too it really boils down to your hp goals. I would look at like this, under 200hp = modify stock engine, 200-350 = 1.8t with bigger turbo, 350 and up = VR turbo or R32 turbo. There are lots more exotic options but those should give you the most for you're dollar.
And for cost; if you pay for labor be ready to spend 5,000 and up for a good engine, parts, and labor.

You might consider buying an entire car and do the swap from it rather than buying individual parts. I have bought T-boned cars or roll-overs and used the entire mechanical systems for swaps before. The truth is that you do not want to mess with added weight. This will affect the suspension and the car's road handling abilities. Sometimes it is better to buy a car that meets your expectations rather than modify one. What is you exact goal? Porche makes a car that would probably satisfy most of your Adrenalin needs. Your car is a VW and it is very expensive to change a basic form of transportation into something exotic. Anything is possible. I have a friend that has a 426 Hemi in his VW and it is detailed to the max. It is devine but I just don't see myself using it for my daily commute.

'84-'93 = JH or 2H 1.8L engine
'95-'02 = ABA 2.0L engine

Now there's a waste of musclecar history..
