Re: Need pics of 17x10 rears with closeups on the tires.. (wig-out-at-denkos)

by stretching a tire somewhat you are elimintating alot of the flex of the tire, thus making it stiffer, it also makes the tires behave more predictably since you're not really rolling your sidewall
Did i say safer? nope, did i say better handling, nope. i said stiffer, which stretching the sidewall does indeed make.
now, why dont we read a little better before we comment of the wrong thing again

Wrong. Again.
Stretching a tire puts a lot of undue stress on the sidewall. It does NOT make it stiffer.
When a tire is stretched, the sidewall is not supporting itself. It is actually the air in the tire that is giving the sidewall its shape and supporting it. In a normal unstretched tire, the sidewall is perpendicular to the force, and instead of air supporting it, it is supported by itself. Air is a lot less dense and a lot more compressable than rubber/steel is. When the sidewall is supporting itself it is very stiff. Now if you applied the same load to a stretched tire, the sidewall and the air underneath supporting it both compress, and the sidewall loses its load carrying capability. A tire's load carrying capacity is determined largely in part by the shape and size of its sidewall.
If this confuses you, I can make a little MSPaint diagram that will convince you.
The tread and sidewall are meant to be perpendicular to each other.

those of us who have stretched tires KNOW and are well aware of the effects it has on the tire...like sidewall stiffness, etc...
we just dont care...
but if it makes your ego bigger to tell us again...be my guest
