Well I'm kinda getting pissed at my current setup of one 10" (the type of the sub and the amp that's powering it check my sig). So the next move is obviously to start going big. I'm thinking of doing either a double 10" or a single 12". The big question at the moment is what's it gonna be. Either two 10W6v2 or a single 10W7. I'm currently leaning towards the two 10" and a 1ohm stable mono amp that can put out about a 1000W rms. I know that at least "2.ohh" has a lot of experience and knowledge and also the rest of you are welcome to through in your thoughts on the subject. I'm such a noob at going big, but hey, you gotta start somewhere might as well do it right the first well technically second time but...

If it was me and I was gonna run the same amount of power, I'd go with a single 12w7. They come in dual 2-ohm voicecoil format which can give you the 1-ohm load. The w6's are good speakers. My sister has a set of 10's in her car and they sound nice. I just preferred the w7 and with that amount of power, you should be good.
Or you can go with a Adire Brahma like 2.ooh runs. I SO wish I could hear his setup.

Re: JL w6 or w7 (Technicalwonder)

I would go with the RE XXX over the W7, i have owned both and loved the XXX. It also costs about $200 less than the W7. And the W7 comes in a single 3ohm VC not dual 2, the 13W7 comes in a dual 1.5. As far as amps it really depends on how much your looking to spend. You could go with something like a JBL 1200.1 for $250 new or a crossfire 1000D for like $500. Its up to you on how much you want to pay for.

Re: JL w6 or w7 (MK3XXX)

So no one is pitching for the two 10" and as for the amp I've kinda set my mind to either dls cad11 (400W (4 Ohm) / 750W (2 Ohm) / 1050W (1 Ohm)) or the a6 (4 ohm : 500 W /2 ohm : 870 W /1 ohm : 1200 W ) cause I could probably get a fair deal on these two. Of course a ground zero amp would be cool but it is soooo out of my price range

Re: JL w6 or w7 (Technicalwonder)

Well, I would go with the two W6s...since that is what I just did

. But I can't really comment on which is best since I don't have them installed yet. I also bought a JL 1000/1 to power them and a 450/4 to power my Focal front stage. The W7 from what I was told, is great for SPL, but the W6 is a superior sounding sub. I don't know this as fact, just what I was told. But I listened to both and the W6 sounded great and they are easier for me to install because the W7 is so deep.

Sweet. So when do you thing you'll get them installed? I'm sorta thinking of going for spl but then again. And the situation being that there would be two of the W6s I'm guessing that they'll bump also and you can wire them for a 1ohm load

I know that there are guys running setups like this or who have experience on them. Now chime in http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: JL w6 or w7 (Technicalwonder)

Guess I'll keep on talking with myself

So what about the front end. Obviously the factory stuff has got to go. As far as the amp goes I've been thinking about DLS Ultimate A1 (2 x 30W / 1 x 160W (4 Ohm)
2 x 80W / 1 x 240W (2 Ohm)
) and for speakers some nice 2ways, any suggestions?? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I'm hoping to have them installed and running within a week or two. I only have time on the weekends. The 1000/1 is only rated down to 1.5 ohms and though it would likely handle the 1 ohm load, it will void the warranty. I will be doing a series/parallel configuration for a nominal 4ohm load.

Re: JL w6 or w7 (Technicalwonder)

i've got a DLS A6, and i've talked to guys that have owned the A3 and A6. apparently the A3 puts out just a little more power. but the difference in power doesn't justify the larger retail price difference. course if you get a good enough deal on the A3, go with that one. i'm planning on swapping out to the A3 eventually. i'd love having an amp rated at 100x2 at 4 ohm putting out 1200 watts into 1 ohm mono
Image

for the sub situation, i'd go with a single 12, so you only need one big amp

IDMAX, XXX, brahma/tumult (yes, there will be a 12" tumult with nearly 33 mm of xmax), or a w7 would be a sweet choice. all depends on what you can get the best deal on
