ok, so this seems a little strange to me.... the car now has 16,000 miles, i bought it during Thanksgiving of '04 with 8,000 miles and it has been a dream... Recently i noticed if i floor it from lets say 2000rpm to 4500rpm and shift i get a little pop or what sounds like a backfire out of the exhaust, and it happens in each gear if i drive it that way, it might be happening during high shifts as well but i can't hear it because of the exhaust.... Currently I have GIAC + intake program, EIP street series exhaust and EIP intake.... just wondering if i should be worried at all, i mean, i could go for an oil change (doing it on wednesday) i've had this mobil 1 for just about 4000 miles, but i don't know, it just seems strange that i'd be backfiring with perfect programming... anyway, chime in, lemme know what you guys think...

Re: anybody else "popping" or backfiring? (j-dub)

maybe a small one.....where the center section connects to the cat pipes... fixing that this weekend as well.... would that cause this?

In my past experiences yes. Not sure that is yours, but I have seen it many times before.

How bad a problem is this?

A leak at the slip fit would have no effect on performance.
Another possibility is that with your modified ecu (I do not know how much fuel is added under full load conditions) but there may be excess fuel which is causing a rich condition between shifts. With the addition of a larger diameter free flowing exhaust like ours, you would be able to hear the popping more clearly. This is at least another possibility.

YES mine backfires and poppings during the shifts sometimes and when I'm coming down a hill in gear with no gas...
Personally I think it sounds awesome. It just adds to the experience for me

Personally i love the pops the exhaust makes...becomes more apparent the more its burned in. Changing oil has nothing to do with this, and my guess is the program your running is on the richer side if anything which is better regardless than ever being lean. Your fine, just quit hammering on it and letting off so it does it

It's def not a backfire though, if it was you'd know it ....kaboom. totally different thing.

nope it has backfired...i was in a tunnel and let off th gas after flooring it and it was a huge pop, just like a backfire from my built 1.8t... anyway, i'm running the giac program, maybe ill switch to EIP since i'll be getting the turbo kit next year anyway...

heck yeah. I made a half brick of velveeta and rotel and ate all of it and a bag of those damned scoop chips.

thanks for your witty imput, all my problems are solved, after i did this the car didn't backfire once, even my throttle responce and top end power have been improved!
