Re: is it possible to install mk4 seats into mk1? (Steve H)

Most likely just some fabrication for the brackets.
I have both at home, I will take some measurements for you, as I assume the MKIV's are going to be wider.

no they dont bolt up. the track is totally different. I guess if you had time and a welder you could make them work but I dont know how well that would work with your ebrake handle as they are wider.

On a really rough measure I would say the mkIV tracks are close to 2 inches further apart than the mki tracks. The seats are about the same width in terms of cushions, but if you have ever seen a mkiv seat you will know what I mean when I say that the "bases" are much wider than the mki seats.

Re: is it possible to install mk4 seats into mk1? (rs4-380)

i'm guessing it would be easier to make some kind of frame that fits the mk1 tracks, but the mk4 seats can be attached to. as soon as i can get my hands on the mk4 seats, i'll know better exactly what needs to be done. i'm not sure welding tracks to the mk1 is the way to go. i'm hoping i can use some stock that i can bolt the newer seats to, and then figure out how to make a frame or use an older frame with some mods.

on a mk3 the track is exactly 2" wider. im tryin to think of how to do it into a mk2. same thing i think. i think cutting and welding are the only option, maybe gonna try and heat up the arm and bend it, but you'd have to bend it in two places, seems like to much work.
Anybody else have some ideas

Re: is it possible to install mk4 seats into mk1? (rabbitation)

i was hoping someone could add something to this old post. i dont want to alter my mk1 tracks, so if that's the only way to do it, i wont. however, if there is another way, let's hear it.
