i need to put a new compressor in my car and was hoping to try to do this myself. can someone point me in the direction of a diy for this, or tell me if i should even try this myself? i've already spent way to much at a shop for them to tell me what is wrong with my system and i would rather not give them anymore of my money.
thanks people

Re: a/c repair/installation (beatstoper)

Pulling off the A/c compressor is easy. It is held on by 2 bolts. However you need a a/c recovery system the drain the old 134a and refill with proper amount. I tried this myself. I would recomend taking it in and letting someone else do it. I would do this to get some warrenty. I think I had a new A/C compressor and drier installed and blowing cold air for around $350.

Re: a/c repair/installation (cashcrazy)

yeah i just spent around 350 for a new compressor and drier. and i know if i take it to the shop to get installed it'll be $84 for an hours labor. hopefully it wouldn't take more than two hours.

If the system is empty as in a leak then replace it yourself I would suggest taking the exspansion valve out as well and either cleaning it or replace it they are cheap.Make sure to get all new o rings as well for the compressor or you will take a chance o having a leak at the hose connections.
