I neeeeeeeddd your advice guys. I have a 2001, GLS with black cloth interior. I cannot begin to tell you how much lint these cloth seats attract. After I vacuum them like 20 times and then use up an entire lint brush, they still have lint on them. I NEED SUGGESTIONS on how to keep them lint free or how to get rid of the lint because I've tried everything.

Like I say in other post, grey cloth are the best. When first time I saw new mk4 cars with black interior I knew that this is insane.I hate cars with black interior.

If you are complaining about cloth seat then you would cry for the leather seats.
I am 1000times happy with my cloth seats over my old GTi's leather seats. So much softer, its not slippery, doesn't get hot or cold like leather. Easy to take care of......blah blah..
You want to get your self a wide packaging clear tape. Roll that sucker around our palm and start tapping the seats. Or you can get those lint remover from dry clearners and use them on your cloth seats.

Hey chegel28,
I had the same problem and nearly went crazy in trying to keep my seats clean!

The best solution I have found thus far -aside from replacing my entire interior is to use a lint brush that is red in color and has very fine teeth for the doors and other surfaces. The brush is made by a company called evercare and I got mine in an organized living store. This brush only allows you to brush in one direction at one time b/c of how the teeth are grooved. You brush in the opposite direction and the hair comes off.
For the seats I found that the best vacuum to use is made by Dirt Devil the platinum force model b/c of its strong rotating brush the acts like many fine combs. Check out deritdevil.com for more info. The problem with using a standard vacuum is that is just sucks - normally not a problem for a vacuum -

but the lint just stays - the rotating brush is needed - sort of like the floor attachment you would use on carpet.
I got my dirt devil at kmart for about $50. Between the lint brush and my dirt devil I can pretty much get my seats interior clean.

Why oh why VW used this fabric I will never figure out. It does look cool once clean, but is one of the hardest materials to clean!
I will say that the next time I buy a car I will bring my cat and see how easy the seats are to clean b/f I buy. Hope this helps.

Cloth/velour same difference. I have vacummed these things for like 20 minutes, used a lint brush, tape you name it. It's not hair is just good old fashioned lint. When I bought the car I decided against leather and now I regret it.

The only thing I found that works about 80% is..........vaccum all lose dirt and lent, then spray down the seats with water, not hose down, just mist, then vaccum again.
Doesnt get everything but it does better. Our seats are the hardest to clean. My friend works at a car wash, and when a VW comes in all the workers fight over who has to clean the inside.

I have black cloth with gray checker-patterned centers...several people have commented on it, saying that GTi's did not come with this combo, only WE Jetta's. anybody else have a golf gti with these seats?
btw, no probs with lint.

The cloth dont have probs, just the velour. these were supposed to be the better seats than cloth, but cheaper than leather.
I would give them back for the cloth anyday,
Heres a Q, A friend has a 2000 1.8T Jetta, and his cloth seats are very supportive and almost as good and the WE seats. Now my 2002 Jetta 1.8T seats are the velour and have almost no support and race feeling to them. Whats up with that.

I have the same problem but on the other end of the spectrum with my Beige interior. No lint but ever spec of dirt shows up. The floor mats are nightmare. I use scotchguard like its going out of style or something. I know this doesn't help, but thought it might make you feel better.

quote:

I found an excellent solution for this.. before you get in your car take off all your clothes.. this will prevent the lint from your pants, shirts.. socks etc. from collecting on the seats.. have you passengers do the same.. just make sure you scotch guard the seats so the stains resulting from body fluids are wipped off easily. hope this helps.

Beware of the "brake marks"

WetOkole is only a surface add-on... it doesn't improve support/grip. Just take that into consideration.
Katzkin leather cost around 600-700 for the kit without installation, but after the labor at the custom pro-shop the final investment comes down to almost $2000. I've seen a lot of bad Katzkin interiors, especially the door inserts and headrests. And one thing that you do not have that the pro's have are the leather tightening material that is heated to give that tight look. Plus ask around there are a few Katzkin owners who regret purchasing the kit and take note that those are the long-term owners, not short-term.
If your going to put that much money you might as well go all the way or not go anywhere.
