my door lock got a screwdriver jammed into it this morning and they unlocked my doors and disarmed the alarm (quality vw) and they stole my kenwood touchscreen 7015 and my nav system. 3 other vw's got broken into on my street also.... so just a warning to people who dont know replace your door lock with a blank plate

Re: Gotta love thieves!! All my audio gone!! (VaporStone28)

Sorry man http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif. Well...that convinces me to get a blank plate to replace the lock. Not being able to roll up my windows with the key is gonna suck for a while, but getting stuff stolen sucks more. Where can I buy the plate? I saw them somewhere but I can't remember now.

Re: (VaporStone28)

not too likely to happen, but what do you do in this case if say youre out shopping or something (away from your spare remotes) and the battery for the remote dies? do you guys wire up like a reserve/emergency button somewhere?
EDIT: changed wording around

This is the one thing that has kept me from getting the blank piece. I guess you could open your trunk with the key and crawl in.

Then again, the batteries in key remotes last a very long time. My sister's car is almost 10 years old and her remote is still going strong.

Definitely replace the battery in your fob after you replace the lock for a little more reassurance

But yeah, if it dies on you, the trunk is the only way to go

and what are you gonna do if you have a shaved trunk?

heh.
if they can open your door with a screwdriver....im sure they can open your trunk the same way too.
and if you have a plate and a shaved trunk....they can just break the window and get in.
if its not chained down, it could be stolen.

Tell me one thing...what's worse, replacing a jammed lock or replacing a broken window because the idiot who wants your gear just busted it out with his screwdriver.
No alarm or lock cover is gonna stop someone if they really want your gear. You're better off buying a policy specific to your gear (check with insurance company) with no deductible...and specify any damage done as a result of a break in is deductible free as well. From what I've been told, coverage for stereo gear should be about $1/month for every $1000 in gear. Also, specify you want agreed value coverage. Otherwise, you spent $1000 bucks on that new deck/amp/whatever, and it gets jacked tomorrow, they can pay you $150 bucks and call it even. When you go to get your coverage, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RECEIPTS, even if theyre just handwritten ones from your buddy selling you his used set of tweeters. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE VALUE, THE DATE, AND SIGNATURES FROM YOU AND YOUR BUDDY ON THERE.
HTH,
Eric

Re: (illusionsnismo)

that really makes me thing about the insurance thing, i have a the new Pioneer Indash, and me being 18, and in high school. if the wrong ppl hear or see about it, then my car will get broken into. does the insurance company send some1 out to look at your gear? and if something should happen how do they replace your stuff???

What about the hatch? Can't they open that and crawl into your car?

correct me if i am wrong, but in a jetta, u cant put the seats down from inside the trunk??? the release latch is inside the passengers cabin, right? so, what good would gettin into the trunk do??
but ok, just saw u are GTI guys... guess u can pop that back decklid up and get in that way... my bad!!!

For the cover couldnt oyu just use a passenger side piece to cover it?

I would think you that you would use the driver side rear if it matters. Then you can just replace that old decrepit condom in your wallet for an extra remote battery. This way if it ever dies, you have the spare one in your wallet. Just a thought.
