So I'm leaving work tonight and my 1.8 turbo seems a little slugish.
It seems like the pep is gone out of it and the turbo isn't kicking in, like it's a normally aspirated engine. I seem to have to give it more gas to get the normal speed out of it.
I can't tell if the turbo is going up or what. I don't hear any strange noises or anything, it just seems to be a little wimpy

The car has 16k on it and was working just fine earlier in the day.
I think I'm real P'ed Off.
any ideas???

limp mode. you're prolly seeing 5psi. from your description, you don't have a boost gauge. take the car to the dealer, or find someone with a vag-com to clear it.

O.k. now that sounds about right, tell me more about that...
What the heck is limp mode? how does that happen and why? and how do I prevent this crap from happening again?

Re: (silveratljetta)

limp mode is when your boost sensor sees more boost than requested. the n75 will keep your line open to allow your motor to run off your wastegate. which is a 5psi spring.
there are 2 ways to correct it from happening again, which it still could happen, just not very likely.
1. chip the car
2. clamp the boost sensor (people call it a map) and run a boost controller.
either direction you go, spend the money on a boost gauge. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

u might have a vacuum hose broken or split. Check the right side of your fuel rail on the fuel pressure regualtor.

it could also very easily be a vacuum leak, but you would be running rich as hell, and would know you were. check your hoses, around the fpr, and around your dv. but with low mileage, this would be my last resort.

The limp mode really sounds like what is happening here. I'll let you know when/if I find out myself. The car is at the dealer now! They even gave me a rental while the work is goin on.
Kinda funny actually. the window feel down into the door on my way to the dealer for this sluggishness problem.
2 birds 1 stone.

I am having the same problem. I have a VDO boost gauge and it shows about 5-6psi and sometimes it spikes up to 9-10psi. Will the VAG-COM help me determine the problem. My car only has about 25k on it, never really beat on it. I installed new denso iridium plugs cause I thought it was bad plugs but it didn't change much. The strange thing thats driving me nuts is that it sometimes seems to have alot of sack fro some reason off the line and then sometimes it doesn't. I just ordered a new DV and new n75 valve from ECS tuning so I hope this helps out. Any suggestion would greatly be appreciated .

where do you usually run boost wise. your psi sounds about right for a bone stock car. spike at 11-12psi, taper down to about 5-6psi. if it's chipped than you have hit limp.
