Alright so I was looking at my shifter with the boot off and I noticed a little groove that may at one time held a clip that prevented movement (left to right) on my shifter. Here are some pics to assist in the help. Thanks.
The center Red ring is where I think the clip goes.

Yes, it's a locking c-clip, should be able to get something from Home Depot or Lowes. Nice pic of your car.
Actually, if you live near Burbank I have one I can give you. Let me know.

Re: Am I missing a clip on my shifter? (Silver VR6 Corrado)

Thanks for the info fellas, I actually went to the hardware store and found an "E" Clip which works and I cant believe how much it made a difference in finding first gear and second. It was 48 cents too.
Thanks for everyones help.

The part you get from the dealer was "redesigned" meaning it's totally different and I had to pound mine on w/ a hammer and it still kept coming off. Then I got a C clip at a hardware store, snapped it on and it's worked fine ever since.

When mine drove that clip broke, then It was hard to get it in first, because it would keep going in to reverse on it's own. I couldn't even tell which gear I was in until I would try to take off, then start backing up. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
Just buy the clip from Lowes. I guarantee that it will be stronger than the stock one anyway.
