ALLLLLright.. ive had it for probably about a month or two now, and this rattle will NOT GO AWAY. we thought maybe it was hitting the back valence.. so we cut that to make it fit better. no dice. thought maybe it was the heatsheild? so we took that off this weekend. and it still rattles. anyone have any suggestions or any problems like it? its not the hangers.. could it be the way the exhaust sits together? the noise is usually when i start it up. or i am sitting still. it used to do it bad when i had the AC on, but not really anymore. so yea.. mostly sitting still.. help please. if i have to hear this sound much longer i think im going to slam my head in the car door.
its a ghl 3'' turbo back by the way.

Could it be rattling on the rear axle when the car is on the ground? I know a friend of mine that has 3" TB GHL had this issue.

sometimes the clearance of the axle pipe is millimeters. so i'd check on that too.
also, does the rattling go away once the car is warmed up because the exhaust will tend to expand and whatnot.

Re: (JTGTI)

could be a broken cat, broken resonator, or it's hitting something. you really need to narrow down where the noise is coming from (ie have somebody stand outside the car as it's started) as that is necessary to isolate the source.

Oh when you check pipe over the rear axle...make sure the car is ON the ground...once you lift it you'll have TONS of space and wont be sitting on the axle.

Well thinking about it...even if you lifted it and it was rattling on the axle, there would be a rub mark on the pipe in that location.

*technically* that is not the axle but rather the rear torsion beam.
my milltek would not stop bouncing off of it. i put a hose clamp around the rear hanger and now i'm good to go.

check for leaks...
you might have the same problem that i had with mine last week...
resonator pipe came off resonator. easy fix, just had in-law weld it for me.
I have to say i do miss the sound, sounded like a VR turbo without an exhaust

Ok, sorry I didn't use the correct terminology. Not many would comprehend "rear torsion beam" unless specified like the way you did. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

This is an easy fix.. I did it to mine as well.. I had the same issue.
Ps: Don't be an ass.. Proper term's are important because we need to know where you are talking (in terms of on the car)

Re: GHL exhaust problem.. Help Please. (Fullmetal Fate)

First make sure its actually rattling somewhere on the body. I had a real annoying tapping, but it turned out to be a loose baffle inside the muffler, it only rattled like at 2500 rpm and below. Other then that, like someone else said, 3 inch exhausts on these cars only have a few millimeters of clearence over the rear axle. I actually took some heat wrap and wrapped it thick around the part of the pipe that was tapping. Then it started rattling on the heatshield before the axle closer to the front of the car. Custom brakets may be necessary, thats what I ended up doing. Also as the car heats up the exhaust hangers will expand dropping the exhaust a few millimeters. So if it only taps when cold you need to some how lower it. Good luck! a couple beers and a sledge hammer to the exhaust tip!!
