Well I was in an accident, I am ok and so is my girlfriend.
Someone ran a redlight and hit me in the right front. Spun the car 90 degrees.
Will have damage report on tuesday or so...didn't look like there was any engine damage, some fluids leakin out and the whole front end looks destroyed.
My front VW emblem flew almost 30 ft!

No airbags went off at all, so I will also be calling volkswagen on monday to discuss that.
Be careful out there guys and gals...its getting worse.

Um, you are OK and so is your girlfriend. So why do you think the airbags should have gone off?
If they go off when they are not needed (clearly they were not needed in this accident) then they can do more harm than good.

Re: Jetta vs Ford F150 (Bartnik)

I agree with Bartnik on the airbag issue. Why would you assume that something went wrong with the airbags not deploying? They are much smarter then you think. So read your owners manual and leave VW alone. They got better things to do.

IMHO the airbags side airbags should went off,if the force of impact can spin a car 90 degrees the lateral force could cause some severe head injuries if the passengers head hit the side pillars. The main thing is that no one was hurt and the built of the VW probably prevented some serious injuries..

makes sense to me, I would at least think the side one would go off.

I'm no physicist, but if it was a corner hit I would thisnk that theu should either both go off or not at all. If you're hit in the right front corner, then your body is going to move that direction - if the front airbag went off then it would knock you to the side (think of it like the old Pong game), and unless that one went off, then you would be in bad shape. I think airbags are meant for straight-on hits - from the front or the side. I could be completely wrong - I'm just kind of guessing here.
Regardless, glad you're okay. If you have fluid leaking I would say that there is a good chance at having engine damage. It's unlikely that the radiator hoses just got knocked out or something.

I bet it was windshied washer fluid.

Regardless of anything, or fault of an airbag not working or whatever...
Glad you and the Miss are ok and hope everything works out quickly for you.

Glad you're okay. Hopefully, things will work out without any hassles. My insurance company moved quickly to resolve things on my/their end, so now it seems the other guy's insurance company is taking their good ol' time.
A similar thing happened to me about 5 weeks ago. Some guy who wasn't paying much attention, pulled out of a parking lot driveway from between two other cars and hit my RR corner as I passed right in front of him. I was in the process of getting in the left turn lane... He spun my car 180 degrees and then my driver's side hit another stationary car. In all, my repair bill is close to $6k. The other 2 cars had basically zero damage -- the guy who hit me only had a broken turn signal lens!!
