What is the rev limit set to with original chip?

For some reason it is possible to go above 6500 rpm for me. It doesn´t stop there. How can that be?

some dist. corrados can go up to 7200 rpms, I've had two a late '92 and a '93 that with a stock chip would rev to 7200 rpm's, but some friends late 93 with no-dist. would only go to 6500 rpm's I always found this wierd !!!!

how far past 6500? sometimes my tach will read 66-6700, but thats simply guage error.

i think i also has the 7200 think on my dis motor cause i have had it t 7 and never hit a limit

how can you tell 7200rpm if the gauge only goes to 7000rpm? unless of course you have some form of after market then the answer to my question would be obvious

I own a vag 1551 and have run it wide open on the road in second gear and that's what I normally got, on colder days out it sometimes goes higher.....7200-rpms

Near 7k without hitting limit. I have a dist. engine and from the other posts it seems that this is the explanation then. Wonder if it´s due to bad regulation or the vw-spec beeing that high for the dist. engines...

I'm fairly certain the VR6 rev limiter (except some corrados?) is 6650.
