Volkswagen confirms Hallmark to be new head of US ops from Oct 1
09.09.2005, 10:26 AM
WOLFSBURG, Germany (AFX) - Volkswagen AG said Adrian Hallmark will replace Len Hunt as head of troubled US unit VW of America, effective October 1, confirming earlier reports.
Sources earlier told dpa-AFX news agency the company plans to promote Hallmark in an effort to boost profitability at its US operations.
Hunt will assume Hallmark's current position overseeing sales of luxury brand Bentley, VW said.
VW's chief executive Bernd Pischetsrieder in July said he no longer expects VW to achieve a breakeven in its North American operations next year.

That is disappointing news.

As a Phaeton group I think we enjoyed Mr. Hunts candor and enthusiasm when we all meat this past April.
I wonder if we will have the annual Phaeton meeting next year?

Re: FYI (Jack Orr)

Easy come, easy go. Len was very much an auto enthusiast, and I've messaged him a few times with intelligent responses. I think he will be missed

No clue as to what this new guy's like. The article below is a little harsh seeing as the new Passat just arrived, Jetta sales have gained momentum, and other product is a bit starved. Also, it's pretty easy to turnaround a low volume company like Bentley with a stunning car at a strategic price. Changes like this make me wonder

Volkswagen names Bentley exec to head U.S. unit
Reuters / September 09, 2005

FRANKFURT -- Volkswagen has named Adrian Michael Hallmark, the sales and marketing chief of its luxury Bentley brand, to replace Len Hunt as head of its struggling Volkswagen of America unit on Oct.1.
Hunt, in turn, replaces Hallmark as head of sales and marketing for Bentley.
The move gives Hallmark, 43, control over VW's U.S. and Canada business.
"Hallmark brings along years of sales experience at various carmakers and significantly contributed last to the turn-around at Bentley," VW said in a statement.
The move comes at a time Volkswagen is struggling to come back from a constant decline in unit sales in the United States that compounds negative currency effects from the strong euro.
North America piled up a massive operating loss of $1.13 billion in 2004, and Chief Executive Bernd Pischetsrieder has been downbeat on chances that the group could break even there even next year after another big 2005 loss.
In August, the Volkswagen division's U.S. sales rose just 1.6 percent to 23,083 units, according to the Automotive News Data Center. Yet that represented the best U.S. sales month in the past year.
For the first eight months of this year, Volkswagen unit sales have declined by 19.1 percent to 141,340 units, despite the U.S. relaunch of the new key volume models Jetta and Passat.

Sure we can - this news means we can now combine our efforts with the Bentley owners. After all, it's the same hardware.

Great thought! Bentley is setting the world on fire. Would be interesting to see W12 Phaetons displayed in some Bentley show rooms.

My observation is that Bentley is going to any length to obscure the connection to VW, not promote it. They need to preserve the fiction of Britishness. Besides having a Phaeton W-12 in the showroom would just show everyone that you can get a superb machine for much less. Why would they do that?

You, I and the rest of the Phaeton understand the linkage but somehow I do not see the Bentley owners wanting to socialize with Phaeton owners.
Just my observation!

Len Hunt Is Leaving VWoA

Some of you guys met Len Hunt at the Phaeton gathering. Did you scare him away?

What is the best way to reach

What is the best way to either email or write Adrian Hallmark directly for some assistance that the Phaeton Customer Care center has not been able to answer.
I would appreciate his direct email address or his Mailing address.
Thanks,
Larry

Re: What is the best way to reach (Kcmover)

I think all VW corporate employee email addresses follow the protocol "firstname.lastname@vw.com" Note the period between the firstname and lastname.
Mr. Hallmark is a member here on the Phaeton forum (perhaps he drives a Phaeton), you can check his Vortex member profile by clicking here: Adrian Hallmark VW Vortex profile. I don't suggest you try to contact him by instant message, though - email or postal mail might be better.
The postal address for VW of America's head office is:
3800 Hamlin Road
Auburn Hills, MI 48326
United States of America
