Well I have ran into some problems and I am kinda trying to avoid the obvious

I recently swapped out the 1.8 in my rocco. I switched it from a 1.8 JH (89 cabby) motor that was stock for a RV 1.8 with a worked head (ported, polished, schrick cam, HD valve springs, etc.) after the swap she fired up and was easily driven around the block with a crap load more power than it ever had before!

so I decided to take it on the main roads. I thought I should run it hard to "see what it could do" so I rev'd her to about 5500-5600 in each gear til I hit the top of third (FF tranny code with no work as far as I know). At this moment I heard a metal to metal knocking sound.. oh *****
Image
so I babied her back to the house and parked her (I had a honey do list a mile long and wasn't suppose to be playing with the rocco til it was done

)
My question is or more like fear is:
ROD-KNOCK
Image

does anyone have trouble shooting tips before I start?

any tips or suggestions on what it could be? The motor didn't lose power so I am expecting the worse

please help! This rocco was the one I decided to keep out of three and this one is giving me all the trouble....

Re: Please help (Morio)

Bagging on it definately didn't work in you're favour did it? umm, it could be anything really, if its a metalic sound..knocking? i'd be leaning towards rods , wrist pins or worse, the main bearings.
Best bet, remove the sump pan and check the rods and mains..if they feel and look fine..look further.

Re: Please help (Morio)

Doesn't sound good especially a knocking noise. Did the noise continue?
Does the noise occur when the engine is running, or does the noise occur when the wheels are also turning? If the noise is present with only the engine running, then I suspect a rod bearing. If the noise only occurs when the wheels are turning, then check for CV's, driveshafts, etc.
Good luck, WWR.
