I got the chance to drive a new GLI today and I am impressed with the overall feel and performance of this car. Couldnt really get it going due to monsoon season. I am not about to trade the R for it but if someone wants to loan my wife 28K interest free she would love it

$28K?

Paid $21.5K when I bought mine.
Edit: I don't mean to be a #ick but it's lend, not loan. Loan is a noun.

my dealer in MD has a bunch of the new GLI's just sitting in the back lot still wrapped; The Red is nice, but the car is still just eh from the outside; nothing glamourous about it; I like the GLI from 04-04.5 the best http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

According to New Webster 2003 Ed., it's a verb as well.

"Usage Note: The verb loan is well established in American usage and cannot be considered incorrect. The frequent objections to the form by American grammarians may have originated from a provincial deference to British critics, who long ago labeled the usage a typical Americanism. Loan is, however, used to describe only physical transactions, as of money or goods; for figurative transactions, lend is correct: Distance lends enchantment. The allusions lend the work a classical tone."
I retract my objection. However, for some reason, it's extremely irritating to hear people use "loaned" when referring to "lent." Don't ask me why...
Sorry for the OT posts. A http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif for me.

Re: (Max Rebo)

Cant believe these things are priced higher than the R32. Local dealer wants a little over $28K+ plus a $2K+ markup. Total sticker was over $31K.

i took a new GLI out for a little floggin'. pretty nice ride, a tad pricey i felt, but nice nonetheless. the 2.0t engine is just a really sweet engine!!! i drove the stick and i really liked the gearbox a lot, felt a little smoother than the R, not much but it was noticeable. overall i really liked the GLI, but it did exhibit quite a bit of torque steer, which wasn't a surprise to me since i was trying to drive the car like the R32 and an R32 it ain't

oh ok, personally i dont like the new R32. Its more of a MkV version of the 4motion.
wait for the R36 if it ever comes http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

so far, i like the direction vw took with the new jetta and the new passat. i definitely have complaints, but i'm trying to stay open-minded since resistance to change of any kind can often cloud one's vision

e.g., i did NOT like the new audi front when i saw the pics, but after seeing it in person, now i love it.
while i absolutely love the MKIV body style, i often find myself staring lovingly at previous body styles, so i'm guessing that even if i end up loving the MKV body style, it's only going to increase my love for the previous style
