My idles is going to ****

Ok. I have a 1997 jetta 2.0. I've changed plugs,cap, rotor,sparkplugs,. my idle is getting real bad. is this a sighn i need a new timming belt.. The car is fine when driving its just when im sitting at a light. The idle gets loupie and almost stalls Any ideas?

I also have a 97 jetta and am currently facing the same prob
the rpm's drop out and the car seems like it wants to stall.
my mechanic thinks it might be the tps sensor (throttle position
sensor). ticks me off cause somtimes it stalls.

Ok so i start the car this morning everything is fine runs good i get in the car and drive to the high way i had to stop 2 times at light every thing is fine went on a 15 minute drive. Get off at a exit and stop at the light the idles is bad real rough. Whats up with this

it looks like this is a common problem (idle)
On Tuesday my '97 2.0 Jetta wouldn't start unless pedal was applied. Now it does this every day

just got my car back from the shop today
and the tb was the reason for my prob.
my mech said he found a used tb off a car with 30k
for $225. the dealership wanted over $400 new.
runs like a new car!!

i have the same problem. i guess mine started at about 75K...i now have 118K on the odometer. When i get to a light or a toll is when it happens. i just apply throttle and won't let it idle rough....cheaper fix then 500 bucks.

i had this problem on my 96 2.0...first the o2 kicked the check light then kept having ruff idle kept going back and forth eventually the put a brand spanking new TB on...supposedly the tps is part of it car ran fine for a long time im just starting to get alittle bubble in the idle at stop lights...im thinking a good cleaning will help this out....oh yeah it all happened thank god under 2/24 certified preowned vw warrenty http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
