Well, my wife isn't talking to me, but the car is pretty nice. I picked up an 87 Cabriolet today for $750. The car only has around 90k miles on it and it runs like a champ. Why so cheap? It was stolen and recovered and has a salvage title. There are a few minor dings on the outside and the interior will need some work because of the theft (dash and steering column) but I still think I got a great deal. Most parts I need can be had at a junkyard for pretty cheap. Here's a pic.

Welcome to the "Owner of stolen/recovered/salvage title '87 Cabriolets" club.

Of course, I was the original owner of mine, so that keeps me a little unique. My wife is just the opposite; she insisted that we buy back the car after it was recovered. She has sentimental attachment to it.
Good luck with the project; they're a great deal of fun.

Nice find Tim....I never put much into the 'Don't buy a slavage title car' thing... If it's a good deal on a nice car, I buy it. And it looks like you got a great deal...Congrats and welcome

Good find http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif The triple white was the most popular color combo imported to the states on the cabby's. Welcome to our bizarre little hole in the vortex.

Yeah I really dig the interior on this car. New front seats are in order though. The passenger side is ok, but the drivers side is pretty bad so I'm gonna go looking for some Recaros out of a Scirocco which should drop straight in. Apart from fixing the interior and patching or buying a new top, I want to do the suspension for now and just leave it as is. Then as things start wearing out... UPGRADE!

Already emailed the webmaster for RabbitCa last night.

I had an 83 gti a while back and while I only had it for a week, it got me hooked. Even with the stock suspension and motor this car is so much lighter and fun to drive. First things first I am fixing the rearview mirror, wipers, oil change, and plugs. Belts will need to be done soon as well, but after that I will just wait for things to wear out and then upgrade them.
As a side note, I noticed yesterday that the line going to the AC condensor is not hooked up. Not that I wanted AC in the car anyways. Can I remove the condensor and everything? Is there a shorter belt for removing the compressor?
Also, what's the deal with the Karmann bading?
I know I know, noob questions.
