I don't know why they would say that unless it has something to do with pulling the relay. You can achieve the same thing by just pulling the fuse to the fuel pump, but even that you don't have to. You can try to reset the computer if you want to, but you really don't need to.

EDIT: Just talked to a buddy and when he did his, he just kinked the line (the soft part) on the tank side and pulled the filter off. He didn't de-pressurize his.

Im not totally sure but it should say where it is on the plastic panel you have to open. I should know though, i've spliced into it already for an inline pump

resetting the ecu has nothing to do with a fuel filter service, save yourself the trouble and dont do it. if you're obd2 it'll reset your fuel trim but if the car was running lean due to a clogged filter it'll relearn and compensate for it. and any of that happening is even a stretch.

I'm pretty sure it says to reset your ECU because it tells you to disconnect the negative battery cable. With the after market chips, they recommend letting the chip readapt whenever you disconnect the battery.
