Hi guys,
I just bought an '03 GLI, and can't wait until I can pick it up.
Couple questions though, does anyone have any pics of Jetta's with short throw shifter kits installed? I'm not really into mods, but I think a short throw would look pretty neat.
Also, I'm new to driving a standard, so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but is it okay to skip some gears sometimes on a Jetta GLI 6 spd, or should you always hit all of them?

Re: (herbehop)

Thanks for the reply.
I didn't know that about the shifter, I thought that's what a "short throw" is, but I (obviously) don't know much about this stuff. I've seen some sports cars with really short shifters, always thought it looked slick, thought there might be a way to shorten it (short of literally sawing it down).

welcome to one of the greatest addictions in your life.. but don't worry... there is a 12 step program to help you when you want to move up to an audi... haha j/k... short throw kits don't really affect the visual aspect from inside the cabin but allow you to shift into gears without moving the shaft as far a distance... there are ALSO kits that provide for a shorter shaft (hahah) which you will see like some of the pictures above.. plenty of people just saw it down and get an aftermarket **** knob.. check out the diy/faq stickied on top of the forum... good luck with the gli!

Re: (tmoney13xx)

you should maybe try to drive someones car thats got a short shifter in it, you may not like it, i know i don't. If you want the look, then just get a pipe cutter and hack off about an 1.25" off the rod, then find a small hose clamp and reattached the knob, 10 minutes tops. looks alittle better, doesn't affect the smoothness of the shifts.

Where can I sign up for that?

Check out DieselGeek or B&M for short shifters. You can also get the OEM TT shifter to shorten the throw a little bit.
