[mkIV forum]awww man, drop that ish and get out of 4x4 mode [/mkIV forum]

lol, we say that in the Scirocco forum too...
although it's sorta tongue-in-cheek
But, mk2 'Rocco's were raised compared to their european counterparts, stupic bumper-height regulations

It's anger towards inane US regulations, and towards VW for not designing the car with US regulations in mind from square one.

Obviously, considering they chose to show bad photochop of a driverless car in a rolling shot.

The new Civic has a very low ride height but rides and handles great, not to mention all of BMW's cars (except for the SUVs and awd models), so I'm still waiting for a good reason why VW's fender gaps still look like crap.

Those cars were actually designed by people who give a rat's ass about our market.

Almost all American cars have crazy wheelgap and they would look so much better if they lowered them. Even the sports cars come 4x4 from the factory. The new Jetta and GTI are heading towards this trend. I always imagine Germans cars as sittin lower than their Japanese and American counterparts.

I'm more bothered with the fact that car drives by itself

My guess is the driver slipped out of the badly-bolstered seat.

Yes, the ride height is too tall IMO.

Re: Is the wheel gap/ride height on the US MKV GTI THAT bad?? (VarianceJ30)

lets face it.
the GTI is a fairly low volume car in the US.
VW have cheaped out on the suspension and the Interior, and yes i am sure that the US GTi is a lesser car than its euro counterpart..
however........ the GTi in the UK costs..... wait for it...
GTI 2.0T 200PS DSG 3dr F ÂŁ21,325 thats $38,000!!!!!!!!!
i can buy a NA GTI, chip it, put an exhaust on it, coilovers and recaro buckets and still have change..... doesn't seem so bad now!
but it still looks poop standard...

Note that 99.9% of the people responding to this poll have never seen a US-spec MkV GTI apart from the press photos, let alone driven it.

Should we call the Waahmbulance?

Who cares.

x2
I don't think the handling would be THAT affected, knowing how good the one we get here is.
It is truly a great car.

With the 17s it looks OK to me, but the 18s make the gap look worse. Since I don't like the design of the 18s anyway, I voted no, the gap is fine.

that pic was clearly shot over here, but i thought they weren't selling them here yet??

How big are the brakes? There doesn't seem to be much room between the caliper and the wheel. Will 16" fit or are 17" the smallest size you can fit?
