Well, some idiot in a Kenworth backed into my Jetta. The insurance company has decided it's not worth fixing, so they are writing it off. They low-balled me hard with the first offer, so now we are "bargaining" about the value of the car. The only thing good is that I managed to strip off all of the aftermarket (rims, springs, etc...) before they got a chance to see it. I will soon be in the market for a '90-'92 (big bumper car) Turbo Diesel Jetta in Alberta Canada if anyone knows of any. I'd like to get one with cruise, power windows, A/C, sunroof, and power locks. Any other options would just be a bonus. Anyways, not much (was just getting started when it got hit) but here's a picture of my Jetta before being striped. Thanks for letting me vent a little.

Re: (GoClick)

If they see the aftermarket pieces, they'll take them with the car. As is, they only offered me $1850 for the car. They don't give any extra for rims, suspension, etc... I've seen cases where they didn't want to pay out at all because the car was "modified" and according to them, that may have been the cause of the accident. A friend of mine was denied money because the car was modified and he didn't tell the insurance company. Most won't offer insurance on a modified vehicle. The worst of it all is, a Turbo Diesel like mine is selling for around the $4500 mark right now, so their offer isn't even close.

Why can't you proove to them that your car is not worth $1850 and show them that it is more than the average Jetta? At this point, I would think that is worth a try.

Re: (digifant_gli)

The aftermarket pieces I'd just as soon keep for the next Jetta anyways. I've sent them copies of as many ads as possible for similar cars to mine as examples of what they are selling for in the hopes that they will re-evaluate things. The other problem is that they aren't local. He is from Saskatewan, I'm from Alberta. So I have to deal with a company from another province, different time zone and all. It makes it difficult to reach them as they are closed by the time I get off work, and closed for lunch as well. I gave them my email address but still haven't heard anything from them. Hopefully everthing will work out in the end.

Re: (mimisan)

According to my insurance broker, the insurance company will only go to bat for me if I have collision coverage. Then they would have paid me and went after the other company for reimbersement. Because I only had the basic coverage, I'm on my own.

the saskatchewan isurance company is cheap as hell. they are publicly owned so insurance is super cheap, but they screw you whenever you get in an accident or get a ticket. tickets are double here, you pay the cops, then the insurance company charges you the same amount (in 90 % of the cases)

Re: (dazed&confused)

Good luck. That really sucks that you're dealing with a crappy company. I hope they pay up.
It blows my mind that the person who gets hit is usually worse off than the person who caused the accident. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
Oh yeah, and good call getting your aftermarket stuff off. You never would have seen it again. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: (crazyreesie)

I think that what irritates me the most is that the guy tried running. When I saw him backing towards my car, I layed on the horn and flashed my lights like mad, as there was nowhere that I could go, and he just kept on coming. He pushes my car about two feet sideways, throws it in first and takes off. So here I am with a busted grill and headlight hanging out, chasing him down. When I finally caught him, he denied doing it, like I imagined the whole thing. We had words, exchanged info and that was it. He mentioned paying himself so that hi insurance rates wouldn't go up, but that's the last I heard from him. What a hassle it's been.
