Re: Funny headlight problem (MerryBerry)

The headlights on these cars are a little funny some times. Its probably a few things mixed together. It could be a problem with the bulb grounding out in the headlight. Or the bulb not getting enough juice because of the way it is sitting. Also look at your wire harness. If turnes out that it is the relay search for a diy on how to make a jumper. There is no point to replace it. Jumpers work better and will keep your headlights on wheen you put on your highbeams when you ahve duel chabmer headlights. Or they can make it that only your fogs stay on when you turn on your highs. Or you can make it so all the lights are on when you hit your highs unlike the relay that shuts off all the lights except the highbeams.
Wow that was longwinded. Sorry if I made this more confusing.

If you use a relay, and you have the dual chamber headlights, your fogs stay on with the high beams too.
Sorry to disagree, but the jumper thing is just another fire waiting to happen. Exposed current carrying wires are seldom a good idea, even in German cars.

I agree with you on the exposed jumpers. I however made my own with the correct guage wire (don't remember what it is now), male connectors and soldered them together. Works great. Also, Maybe my car is different than yours but with my duel chamber e-codes when I put the high beams on the fogs and driving lights went off. The High beams and turn signals were all that was lit.
Back to topic. Check the wires that attach to your headlights. If they are shorting or grounding out this could also be the problem. If you take a look at all this and still cant figure it out, take a volt meter to it. Test all the contact points.
