I've been thinking, if I drive my car around right now, what would happen gears get too hot and they will lock up? I'm gonna get it fixed, just wondering.

Re: lame question. (citat3962)

I have been talking with Alan, how about I put some syrup/water/cooking oil in there? or are we a no go? I would think the gears would get too hot and weld together, which would be cool heheheh, cause the tranny is ****** anyways right?

tape up the hole - http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
fill the transmission with something - http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
using cooking oil? - http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
use something nice and strong to cover the hole. some plastiweld or something, then find some nice gear oil and dump that in there. From there, I don't know if I'd drive it or not, but I'd do that at least.
You might also want to remove as much debris as you can from inside the gear box... pour tons of grease through, etc..

Blitz I wouldnt take her for a spin. As much as you want to you know you really cant. I want to drive my coupe really really bad but I cant cause it doesnt have any exhuast what so ever. At least you can start your car I cant even do that.

i say itll be ok for abit

This coming from a guy who drove around on broken CVs with his arms through the steering wheel, and lord knows what else wrong with the car (don't you have a tranny problem currently?)

Don't do it Slim. When my 2Y went out a year ago, I was about an 1/8 mile from my house so I drove it home, and by the time I got there, most of my oil was gone. You'll have no chance at NOT destroying something and we'd really hate to see more happen to the car than the tranny.

Re: lame question. (2Dr16vJettaGirl)

agreed man. First of all, if you put anything, put gear oil in. Just get the cheap $2/qt stuff if you have to. Next up tho is the fact that it's gonna get all stirred up, and the gears in motion will effectively pressurize the gear oil, so it's gonna force it's way out. If anything else breakes lose, the entire thing could sieze up and you could get in an accident and get hurt

, which no one wants to happen. Just get that new tranny and stick it in there. won't take ya much time at all, then you can rip around town all ya want. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: lame question. (Blitz16v)

Blitz, when i did the 16v swap, I took the car around the block with a hole in the tranny (didnt know it at the time) it ran ok, but my hole was on the inside of the bellhousing, which is actualy somewhat safer since no ish from the road is going to get in there.
all in all I think its not worth the risk, like everyone else said there a chance you could mess up more than just your tranny.
keep cool, and wait for the 4k...
you in LI yet, if you need help swapping the tranny, let me know. I've done about 5 tranny/clutch jobs in the last year alone
