Re: grad am commercial... (DCS)

ugh, how about the other commercial with the annoying girl who says"it was rockin it was rolling, the car, was awesome" in that ANNOYING voice, I wanted to throw something at the tv every time that was on.

It does a comparison between the Grand Am's features compared to the Jetta GL's such as more horsepower, more interior passenger space, and a lower price. But at the end, the tag line is "No wonder why they are looking for drivers."
The thing that I hate about these type of comparison commericals is that you can make ANY car look good to ANY other car if you just compare a few items.

Well, does it have more hp, more passenger space, and lower price? if so then why are you whining? besides they probably sell more Grand Am's alone than VW sells total vehicles in the US. can't argue with numbers.

Re: grad am commercial... (Snowdog)

I was at the Carrottop show the other night and he was commenting on that commercial about if you got a pontiac for a week...
"What would you do if you got a grand am for a week?"
"Let's see... Sell it, wreck it, throw it off a cliff...."

Keep in mind. For as many people as you can find on here that would say no, they wouldn't drive a Pontiac. There's probably 10 times as many people in the US who would say they would never drive a VW.
Different people like different cars for different reasons. There's good and bad in all car choices. Get over it already.

You don't HAVE to buy something to like it. You don't HAVE to own something to defend it.

You know, I never understood that commercial....I mean how does owning the Pontiac for a week suddenly mean you can go on all these road trips to exciting places?
If I had it for a week I'd drive it to work and back every day, just like I do with the car I have now...

Hehe. This is a quote from the top of page 3 in the 2002 Pontiac catalog. LOL. I think the whole thing is such a joke because their claims are so laughable. Even for their most powerful sedan they talk about it having 240hp, blah blah blah and compare it to some wimpy car like the Lincoln LS V6...Well funny thing is that even with 240hp the POS only does 0-60 in 7.64 seconds and 1/4 in 16.60 @ 89.2.

Yes. I have a V6 Chevy Beretta that cant be killed it seems. I need a car that I can walk out to in the morning, know its going to start, drive all day somtimes 150 miles a day in mostly city driving, and still get decent mileage. my Beretta gets mileage around 24 in town, and average 34-35 on the highway, at 168.000 miles so far. Is it an enthusiast's car that you can drive on the edge swinging the tail out with your hair on fire? No. is it a reliable car that will get you where you want to go comfortably? yes. and for 99 percent of the people, thats what they want. of course if I could afford 2 cars, I'd have the GM for work, and an 83 Rabbit GTI for weekends, if three I'd throw in mid 70's Westy to boot

But since at the moment I can only afford 1, i go for reliability, easy maintance, and cheap parts. (brake pads 14.95 at AutoZone)

Who the F*** is whining? ClownCar asked what was wrong with the commercial and I responded about the CONTENT of the commercial since he might not have seen it. As far my comment about comparing a few features about one car, ANY CAR, to another and declaring one car better than the other based on just three items is still assinine. You don't think that VW could claim three things better about the Jetta GL over the Grand Am? Does that alone somehow make it clearly the better car?
According to you, since Pontiac sells more Grand Ams than VW sells cars in the US (and I doubt that, especially if you discount fleet sales), that somehow means that they are better? If so, I guess that a Ford F-Series pickup is the best vehicle sold in the US! MUCH better than those crappy Honda's, BMW's, Toyota's, etc. In fact, those Bentley's, Rolls-Royces, and Ferraris mus really suck since they only sell a few thousand of those POS's here a year!

How many countries is the Grand Am sold in again?
Also, I don't see why this commercial's such a big deal, other than the fact that a base VW is put in a bad light (the horror!). Compare the 1.8T to a comparable Grand Am and let the chips fall where they may.

Re: grad am commercial... (xdre)

Alls I have to say is...wow. Lately its been the common trend to pick on VW in the advertisements like some insecure school bully calling everyone a fairy. Does the commercial clearly show the Grand Am as the better vehicle? Hell, no. Do sales really reveal which is better? Well, they only sold 48 Tucker Torpedos...
Image

Bottom line, yes, it's just a commercial, but it is misleading and since VW isn't guilty of this type of advertising, (read: standing on their own two feet) it's that much more tasteless and spineless. Dissect my post all you want, but you aren't changing my mind.
And please don't lock this thread if the conversation evolves away from the actual commercial.

Re: grad am commercial... (xdre)

I think that's actually pretty ingenious. "No wonder they need drivers"... true or not, it's a great marketing ploy.

Are you implying the 1.8T needs to be chipped?
