if you do decide to do the shift boot, this place makes excellent shift boots and has red alacantraish type stuff as an option:

maybe a red boot with black stitching or a black boot with red stitching. they do matching e-brake boots too.

I like it. The steering wheel matches the seats very well. Most importantly, is whether you like it or not since you are the one driving it. I have to say though, I am a big fan of safety (not because of my driving, but becuase of others on the road). So if I were to ever switch out my steering wheel, it would be for an R steering wheel or something else with an airbag.

thats cool man...and i am not against airbags, but whatever, the car is not a daily driver and i like the wheel...i am def happy with it and i am sure once everything else is taken care off, it should look even better...http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I think it flows well. I would go with red trim on the mats, not solid red. If you do some red on the shift knob and ebrake handle, I think it will all flow nicely.
Change out the trim rings on the seats where the harness passes through from white to yellow.
Personally, you would have to pry my .:R wheel out of my cold dead hands, but that won't happen because I still have an airbag..

I can't say much about the red alacantra because I haven't seen it, but the black leather is top notch. I personally don't have one yet, but I have seen it in a friend's car. this is off Bill's website (http://billswebspace.com/vwgli.htm), he put a black leather boot in his wife's GLI:

I have Redline shift boots in both my Dubs and the leather is top grade, thick and supple unlike the OEM thin and hard

I am sure they would send you a sample if you shot them an email, the boots are made to order......
