So I bought a Mk4-style radio from a 98 Jetta GLX, and I want to install it in my 96 Jetta GL. I am very close to figuring out exactly how I should wire all of the cables from the radio to the car's radio wiring harness, but I am still not sure about one pin. My Bentley manual has the pinouts for both my car's harness and the radio I am installing. Here they are:
My car's wiring harness:

My question is: would it work to connect pin 1 on my car with pin 5 on the radio. These pins are labeled "to Alarm System Control Module (J284)" and "Control signal for anti-theft system (SAFE)," respectively.
Do these two different labels mean the same thing or is it close enough to the same thing so that I could connect em?

Re: Alarm / Anti-theft system radio wiring (mk3Mofo)

Hmm... its seems like that guy just connected pin 5 on the radio (the "SAFE" pin) to positivie battery voltage. This is the same thing that was suggested to me by ..SkaJaCore.. after I asked him about his radio setup:

This is also what I plan on doing unless someone can tell me that the "SAFE" pin can be connected to the "alarm system" pin (J284). Has anyone tried this?

I finally got around to installing the Mk4 radio... I followed the picture (courtesy of ..SkaJaCore..), and everything turned out great. Got my iPod interface hooked up. I'm pretty happy with it
