I would not be so quick to state that we won't get it.
I think we will get it, just not for a few years. I believe that the small capacity, low consumption 1.4 with soupy and turbo chargers was designed for the european markets where people want power outputs between 150 and 200 bhp, without the consumption and costs associated with owning a larger engine (in CC) where there are penalties to pay (which are passed on to the consumer) the larger the engine, more expensive rego etal (this is what I think the case might be, i could be wrong).
I think AU won't see such options until there is some demand for it, with waits still existing for some TDI options and GTI's that people are still waiting 3-6 months for, VWA are happy that they are selling lots of cars and are most likely wanting to keep the choices simple.
(Not to mention warranty, support and other associated costs - if they got rid of the 1.6 and 2.0 FSI's and replaced it with the T+S 1.4, I'd be happy)

so the answer is for everyone to stop buying the current range and start emailling, calling, knock and tap and ring about the 1.4 sc/turbo until they do.
170hp from a 1.4.... i'd be in one in a second. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Golf GT anyone? (IML337)

I had a 1992 Corrolla Sx Seca with the little 20v. It was gem. It has serious body rigidy problems, but that engine and it's gearbox was magic. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
