Re: (2.5@305)

well she's got 1400 miles on hers and no problems whatsoever, with about all her driving is mostly city, she's getting around 22-23 mpg. its a 6-speed auto also
pretty smooth car, alot smoother then my MKIV GTI

Re: any problems (Erik04gti)

The 2.5L is not as fuel efficient as the 2.0L, if that matters to you. If you want fuel efficiency, look for a Golf TDI (good luck finding one.)

Re: (Mrb00st)

the only problems we've encountered with the five cylinder jetta's have been self inflicted, had a lady back over a tree stump and ruin her EVAP system.
one thing that does bother me about the engine though is the rocker arms not being attacted to anything solidly, just kinda held in place by oil pressure.

Sure it wasnt a tdi?

hmm didn't know they were available yet. Maybe could have been. But it smoked too much even for a TDI.

seen a couple of new tdi's smoking alredy, not a lot but def. noticeable...
anyways, got 1st prob, brake squeeling (atleast i think that's it).
got appt on monday, hopefully it'll be fixed under warranty (only 8400 miles)

Hey, I have the 2.5L auto, and my valve body went bad and got replaced and now the one that it'd been replaced by is going bad

Other than that it's a great car. Go with the 5 speed.

let me guess, harsh shift between 1st and 2nd? i've done 4 MKV 09G valve bodies so far. one came back two weeks later with the same problem except it was with the 3rd to 4th upshift/downshift instead of 1st to 2nd. put a TCM in it and we'll see what happens now. VW's techline thinks it may be a larger problem then the valve body, so that car is going to be a guinea pig of sorts.

Elaborate, please for us laymen. Are we talking problems w/ the 6 speed AT?

Re: any problems (jpmccormac)

there have been a few problems with the (seems) earlier production automatic MKV jetta automatic (09G). so far, all complaints have been a harsh or a shutter from the trans when upshifting into 2nd or a harsh or shutter downshifting into 1st. like i said, it seems to be a problem with the earlier production cars, however, from the volume of MKV's that we've sold, and from what other dealers have been saying, it's not a major problem with all new jettas, so far it's just a handfull.
