Re: GLI Owners: Mad about the FAST? (OGSN0)

Hey---I've got a "farfignugen" sticker....do I hear $100 bucks?
It's all marketing...and hype but kinda fun...at least there is some excitement in the VW camp these days......
PS: I have no clue how to spell it!

If they made a FAST for GLI owners, it would look the same from the front, but have a fat a$$ !!!

GLI would be 1/2 the size.
Remember, the Hatch has the big fat booty!
My fast is the fastar!

Re: GLI Owners: Mad about the FAST? (15degree_V)

well we got our display one at the dealership today. i think its pretty cool. although not to the point of paying $200 for it. Also it seems to be quite durable and has a nice heft to it. I dont think any 3 year olds could really hurt it. I bought the first GTI that rolled onto our lot so I'm happy to say I'll be getting one.

but to each their own

The only thing that I’m mad about that there are NO:
a)GLI floor mats
b)GLI license plate frame
c) Etc. accessories that GTI owners've got. I think that VWoA should match GLI's to the same level as GTI’s.
But I am happy that despite the “Fast” character being controversial figure/notion/whatever it should be called, it is something made special for GTI crowd! Enjoy it, guys!!! (insert FAST smily face)

"farfignugen"
Was that a made up word by VW or does it actually mean something?

I've noticed remarks from various GLI owners that express disappointment and/or bewilderment. I don't think it's directly related to the "fast" thing that GTI owners get, but rather the fact that VW perpetuates the "GTI is the golden child, and the GLI is an outcast lump of crap" mess through the advertising for the GTI and the extensive list of GTI-specific DriverGear parts that are available.

It's a snowball effect, I think. This is just the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for some.

It's not a real word in terms of being in the dictionary. It was a VW pitch only that I know of.

That said, I find it rather funny that VW would rather push a car that the general US buyer equates to "cheap" and "economy car" when they have the exact same thing in what Americans (rightfully or wrongly- a personal opinion that truly has nothing to do with this argument) tend to want- a sedan.
But, if this gets them their "listening to the enthusiast" points, then so be it. I'd say they're getting off relatively easily.

I agree. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the GLI is not promoted in this country. Everybody I work with either has a truck or a 4 door sedan. Not saying they would consider a VW but it would be a start for VW to try. There are 4 New Jettas at work and a few MKIV Jetta's. 2 Golfs( 1 being my GTI and another dude drives a TDI). That's it for Golfs. See a couple in town here and there, but lots of Jetta's. My brother in law is going to buy a Pontiac G6 soon. I showed him the results of Car and Driver was it? Where the GLI kicked ass. His comments "wow". Doesn't mean he'll buy one, but why not market to him?? I don't get it. I guess because sales for the Golf/GTI are less in this country, they take for granted that the Jetta's/GLI's just sell themselves??
