I just got back from paying for my new car... a 95 or 96 Jetta GLS... for $500, with a broken auto tranny. But I have plans for this car, It's almost identical to mine, (black jetta) so I'm going to fix all my dented body panels cause this car is almost perfect, and all the other broken things such as sunroof, side markers, etc, then use the block for a 16v swap, if it is OBD 1 that is, and then part everything else out. I never knew a broken car could make me so happy haha. Just sharing my excitement, ill see if I can get some pics in a bit.
That leads to a question... how can I tell if its a 95 or a 96, cause it being OBD 1 is very important, at least for my swap anyway, its got the older steering wheel i generally only see on OBD1s... is there anyway I can tell for certain, I dont actually have the car in my posession right now, I'm picking it up next weekend. so any help that I could use without having the car in front of me would be great. thanks guys.

Re: kind of new car... and its broken! (Dubz Minus 3)

someone said 95, someone 96, i really didnt care, it was $500 and im using it for parts which would have ended up costing much more once painting and everything is factored in. Would you care that much? no matter what year it is i still see it as a good deal.

no the body of the car is in great condition, the tranny is blown, i do not ever plan on driving this car, and i plan on making my money back parting out everything i dont need. but i needed the following
drivers front fender
front passenger door
sunroof assembly
sunroof switch
side markers
dummy plates
grill
and plus i get to ditch my steelies for the wheels on the gls until i get a decent set
and i posted because i was simply asking a question because i wanted to know if it would be possible to use some of the engine parts for a 16v swap.

Re: (pdpwally)

yeah i didnt stick around long enough to find out, and it didn't even dawn on me that i heard both 95 and 96 until i left, but its really not too big of a deal, im sure even if it is obd2, someone out there will trade for an obd1. hopefully i wont have to do that though... looks like i will have to wait until next weekend to find out though.

Re: (yeayeayea)

awesome yeah, i probably am, i can talk to you about it later though, i think im going to be going to the schnell gtg in rockville this wednesday, but how much are you looking to get for it?
and just clearing things up for everybody. i drive a black 97 jetta, this car is being used to fix mine up, and for a potential 16v swap, hence the reason as to why it wasnt a huge deal what year it was, except for the 16v swap, but that can always be remedyed.
