Re: Another reason old people shouldn't drive (MK1roccin77)

old people AND most women in general ... just today, a lady in an accord took a freeway exit and immediately cut back onto the freeway (must have taken the wrong exit - stupidity FTL), she cut off a semi in the process. semi driver locked the brakes and caused a "panic stop" chain reaction. I ended up rearending an '06 CTS at below 5 mph with a car behind me about one foot from rearending me.
all because someone took a wrong exit and then jumped back onto the freeway

she didn't even stop, must not have noticed the booming cloud of semi truck tire smoke and car horns

"Surveys consistently reveal that the majority consider themselves more skillful and safer than the average driver."

Surveys also say that male drivers cause twice as many
accidents as female drivers...
but you know it's always someone elses fault!

Oh yeah! Old women representing Bellingham! I agree, old people should take driving tests, some guy in a geo metro pulled out in front of me while I was going 50. I don't mean a ways ahead, I mean ABS ahead.

Now I honestly don't know this, but how many hours/miles are logged driving for males versus females? Cuz if males log a whole lot more hours on the road then proportionately females could cause more accidents...

OMg, freaking....the other day, I was at the Troutdale outlet mall, leaving work, and I had to stop at one of their stupid stop signs. So I do....as does this old woman across from me. She got their first so I have to wait for her to go.....then I get to go....then the stupid woman stops at the damn greenlight!!!! WTF?!?!?!!!! I was so pissed, she's lucky she didn't make me miss the green light. I hate it when people who don't even know what the meaning of streetlights, drive.

She probably blamed you and accused you of smoking pot huh?
That happened to a GF of mine once, and the old bat gave her all the wrong information so she couldn't get it sorted out.

Actually she admited it was completly her fault, in front of the cop, so I'm fine on that front. I think she might've been smoking pot actually, either that or she's just not too bright. She was saying things like "I don't even know what happened, I was just all of a sudden in the wrong lane" etc. So really the only issue is not getting it totalled. Tomorrow it's going to a body shop for a quote, and then I'm gonna try to get her to pay for it herself rather than going through insurance.

damn, i know how you feel.. just the other day some old a $ $ canadian driver ran a red light in down town seattle and i T-Boned them... Luckily the JeTTa took it like a champ and there were just minimal scratches while their camry on the other hand was fkd up pretty bad. Passenger side was pretty smashed up and the door wouldnt open. sucks for them! they could barely speak english too which made it worse!

Sounds like you caused the accident and not the lady swerving all over the freeway.
Did you expect her to stop, pull over and offer to pay for the damages because you were not paying attention and/or following too close?

I believe the point of CorradoMan's story is that it is the direct actions of the female driver (not trying to start a sex war here) that caused the chain reaction of panic braking, etc. If she hadn't cut back onto the freeway like that, none of this would have happened.
However, I do agree with your statement, he shouldn't have been following so closely and/or should have payed a little bit closer attention.

Re:

remember... what ever you say... you will be old someday too. Why don't you offer to take your grandparents everywhere they need to go, then come back and say that again. They are people too. If you had to take a driving test every 4 years you might fail yourself

my one and only major accident was with a 86 year old man who cut in front of me because he didn't see me... with 900 feet of sight distance he waited til I was 100 feet in front of him to cut me off and pulled the old person slow motion driveway deal.... (that's one side of the story)
The other is that I was street racing at 5:30 in the afternoon on Auburn Way South and doing twice the speedlimit, being a stupid 19 year old dumbass. (Grant remembers this, I'm sure)

While I do believe older folks should get tested annually after 65, I don't agree with the woman driver comment. Although it seems women spend more time talking on the phone while driving than men.
My g/f is a great driver and has impressed me several times with avoidance manuevers etc.
Oh yeah, and no matter what the circumstance, if you rearend someone, IT"S YOUR FAULT.
