Rossi beats McRae at Monza Rally.
MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi finished his first competitive outing in a Subaru WRC car with an impressive second overall - ahead of former World Rally Champion Colin McRae - at this weekend's Monza Rally Show.
Although far from a 'full' rally - the event uses parts of the famous Italian racetrack and its access roads to create asphalt stages - the event attracted top drivers and machines, with Rossi and his Subaru facing a two-pronged attack from the Skoda WRC entry of McRae and former Le Mans winner Rinaldo Capello.
Rossi would finish 5.6secs down on overall winner Capello by the end of the event, with McRae a further 43secs back. The rally consisted of a 13.75km 'junior' stage and a 26.75km 'grand prix' stage, both of which were used repeatedly to give a total of seven stages. Of those, Rossi would win four and Capello three.
However, Rossi would go on to beat current DTM driver Capello in Sunday's 'Master's Show' semi final - a form of knockout superspecial competition that ends the rally - putting him in a straight head-to-head battle with McRae in the final. The Factory Yamaha rider would then win the 'Master's Show' final by 1.4secs over the Scotsman.

that is a toss up as they have a life times experience in thier chosen form of racing . Now if they picked somthign that was neutral then it would be fair but what ??? Planes , boats , ?????

Re: Rossi challenges Alonso to duel (dj_wawa)

Put my money on rossi. We know that he can drive a car pretty damn well, and he's probably the best in the world right now on a bike. Sure Alonso is fast in a car but can he ride on 2 wheels?

I'd need a change of shorts right about then!!

Seriously, it's not even a contest. Rossi would win the bike part, wrc part and be close behind in F1, and could eventually win with a few months of practice. Alonso should really shut up IMO. He doesn't know what he getting into.

Re: (shftat6)

They should race in events that neither have careers in: bicycles, jet skis, bobsleds, maybe some track n field. I think Rossi should challenge Massa to a swordfight and the loser gets the steering wheel for ferrari's #2 car.

Re: (Burnin8r)

It's laughable to think one could adapt to racing motorcycles as well as cars. Having raced both extensively I will tell you that motorcycles are much more challenging. Afterall, cars don't need assitance to stay upright, and are much easier to control at the limit. Lose the front end on a car you push, lose the front end on a bike, and you are likely going down.

my moneys on rossi

Yah. You need balls the size of the moon to do what he does. Granted, F1 drivers are nuts in their own right, but at least they have a shell around them to protect themselves on the track. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Exactly. People think that it is so easy to ride. Maybe in a straight line, but once the competition starts, skill is everything. The second Alosno tries to trail brake into a corner...crash.
