the opinions are separated...

opinions are opinions.
You asked which of the two. I gave my opinion, you will hear others. But , maybe neither is the best choice.
Think about this, 2.0 8v's have been the base model engine for 11 years now. They are newer than both the g60's and 16v's. There are N/a and FI options for the x-flows. Even though its a turd in a new beetle , it will still rip up the road in a mk1 chassis. Spend the money you save on good suspension and brakes, you'll need them. Maintenance item are cheaper for the x-flows too.

all is ok for my suspension i think
i have bilstein sport / h&r race
brake is ok too 9,4 ventiled and cross drilled
i have a 2l16v and g60 for free
i check the for and the against
i hesitate between 16v or g60...

sell them both and get a nice low mileage 2.0 8v.

I agree and then place a BBM kit on it, I plan to do this later to a rabbit, I know my MK3 rips down the street, so I can only imagine what it would do in a mk1.
