Re: Anyone have pics of a G60 with Neuspeed race springs??? (imprtsonly)

If that doesn't look quite low enough for you, the Race springs have 5 dead coils, and can be trimmed without affecting spring rate in any way. I personally trimmed my front Race coils by one, and dropped another 1/2". http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Though it's not a recommended way of lowering...I also trimmed off a coil or two. It rode a little stiffer due to the shocks. I did go through more strut bearings.

Various pics of mine running 17's with 205/40's (the multi-spokes were 17x7, the 5 spokes are 17x7.5). Remember that Race and Sport springs give the same drop and unless the roads are very smooth where you live you're definitely going to feel every little rut and bump.

If you're looking for a deep drop without needing to cut coils, two good options:
1) grounc control coilover sleeves, can find them on Ebay for about $100
2) Spax linear rate race springs, drop about 3" and you can find them used for about $100 also.

Re: Anyone have pics of a G60 with Neuspeed race springs??? (g60racer)

I searched for those spax springs and found a 80/60 setup they have, that's like 3" and 2.5", exactly what I was looking for. the site had a disclaimer stating that you need "short shocks" if you plan on lowering your car more than 40mm. Anybody have any insight on that? If I were to put those springs along with my bilsteins on my g60 you think I'd have problems? Sorry if the answer is obvious to you....I don't know any better.

Basically what they're saying is that if you put those springs on the OE shocks you're going to blow the shocks out very quickly. "sport" shocks are designed for the low and extra pounding that shifter/shorter springs give them and most spring makers will recommend specific shocks for use with their products. In the case of Neuspeed their recomendation is to use either Bilstein or Koni.

whoa.. what?

Race springs definitely give you more drop then sport. I've started out on Neuspeed Sports, then Race, then H&R coilovers.
here it sits on Neuspeed race springs

VR6 cars are lowered slightly more on Race than Sport, but the G60 is nearly identical between Sport and Race.

Now this is the second time it's been posted.... has Neuspeed changed their design? There was a significant difference in between the two (at least a 1/2" drop) when I swapped. Nothing that I'd consider nearly identical.

Re: Anyone have pics of a G60 with Neuspeed race springs??? (cramer)

I can do some homework to see when and if the specs were changed in any way, but as long as I have known, the Sport for G60 will lower 1.25/1.25, and the Race spec out at the same. The VR6 cars will be lowered 1.3/1.3 with the Sport, and 1.5/1.5 Race. I'll do that bit of homework. I'm interested.

Re: Anyone have pics of a G60 with Neuspeed race springs??? (bulldog2.G)

well mine were the old ones (back when H&R made them for Neuspeed) and drop was in the 2"+ range. I'll have to see if I can find one of the old ND catalogs.. should have specs in there. But as far as I knew, Neuspeed kept the specs...

Thanks for the pics and info. I actually was gonna see if I can use a set of Koni shocks from my brother's MK3 Jetta with race springs. He went to coilovers and didnt have many miles on the shocks.

In their spring models for the VR6 you're quite correct, but in the G60 line Sport and Race springs both give a drop of 1.25" on all corners. I'm betting that since G60's weren't such 4x4's from the factory as the VR6 Neuspeed decided that they didn't need to drop them as much to get to the optimal stance from a performance standpoint and therefore only shiftened the spring rate between the 2 spring models.

If his Jetta is a 2.slow then it'll prolly work, if it's a VR6 his shocks/springs won't work on a G60 (but they will on a VR6 IIRC)

you know that is so odd, but you're right. I found an old ND catalog last night and they list the drop as the same for Race/Sport... I have no idea what was up with my springs then because I got at nice drop between the two (same Koni adjustable shocks) resulting at least 1/2" lower ride height.

TOTALLY good set up....

Homework renders this: Neuspeed springs never lowered more than 1.5 on any application until '91. There is a gap between '91-92 where some Race springs did as much as 1.75-2.0", but then again from '93 to the current, the specs are as stated above**. H&R influenced that decision in '91, but the Race was then returned to a 1.25-1.5" spring in '93. When Neuspeed decided not to be H&R North America, in '98, the rates and lowering specs were still retained, and the coils have been made by J.P Grueber Federnwerke, in Germany.
