I saw a small amount of oil building up around my oil pressure sensor. When I took it out the sensor looked fine. When I put it back in I found the problem. It seems like the threads are stripped on the housing

Is there anything I can use to stop the leak through the stripped out threads?? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Leaky Oil Presure sensor (a2_gti)

Auto parts stores sell a kit called a helicoil kit, replaces the threads. Sometimes teflon tape ( used for air fittings and pipe connections) can be used for a temporary fix, but the helicoil is the way to go for this.
If it is the one in the oil filter flange, then a new flange assembly would be a good fix. Replacing the head for the one there seems a little extreme....

Re: Leaky Oil Presure sensor (a2_gti)

basically a helical coil is an insert that's used in soft parts like aluminum. it's threaded both on the outside and inside, since they're steel, once installed(with the next size hole drilled and tapped) they act just like the original threads, only now you won't be beating on the aluminum if you take the (sensor in your case) on and off and are stronger.
at work, we design these in on all of our aluminum parts.
