I have heard of a few less than a handfull of these things running around. I want to do it. How much is the going rate for these whole kits. I have somewhat looked into it...3000 seems a bit much, but not when compaired to hondas and junk. I've been looking into alturnatives...like a junkyard set up, y'know, like a turbo off of a Jetta Diesel or something...

Re: Anyone here have a Turbo 8v A1? (BennyGLI)

i had a callaway stage II+ kit on my car, intercooled, additional injection, adjustable wastegate, bigger turbo, watercooled centersection, it was fun, and fast, blowing 15 PSI of boost

check out the forced inductions forums if youre interested. There are many different setups you can use, many you will find are very inexpensive.
You can make your own manifold, downpipe, and boost tubing if you have the skills. That way, you'd only need to worry about buying a turbo, maybe an IC, and dealing with fuel management. A lot of cars came with better turbos than a jetta diesel, and can be found for little money too

I've been looking into this for a few years and it can be done on the cheap, but it takes time and more time. FI forum has alot of good info on it, for more than 5ish PSI look into more fueling as stock CIS can't keep up.
Great parts can be had off of other CIS turbo cars, Porka 924, Volvo 240(2?), Audi 5000t, etc.
There are also a few cars that had Garrett T3s from the factory and if you look in the yards you can stumble onto one.
It's alot of picking around, but you'll stumble onto things eventually.

I'm in the process of putting on my Callaway Stg 2. There are not any kits for A1's out there. You can find callaway kits on e-bay from time to time. For fueling a lower boost setup look for an Audi 5000T warm up regulator. If it has 2 ports on the side of the unit, it is boost sensitive and will cure your fueling troubles.
There are many junkyard configurations, but most will require the purchase of some new parts from whatever company you choose.
