Correct, the Rabbit has either a manual tranny or a traditional automatic.
Triptronic refers to the transmissions ability to let the driver select the gears via "manual mode". Since both the traditional transmission and the DSG transmission have that feature that is why you see both of them described as triptronic.

Re: (thread)

SOB. Damn you GTI and your DSG exclusivity. What engines do mate to the DSG? I've heard reference to the TDI (which unfortunately won't be available on the Rabbit for awhile; if ever). Does the passat 2.0T have DSG?

What do you mean?
The Jetta 2.0T, and TDI (not to mention the GLI) all get the DSG.

Sorry, out of luck there too. Passat 3.6L's with the sport packages have paddle shifters, but still a normal automatic. DSG is only on 2.0T GTI's and Jetta's, and the 1.9L TDI.
