A friend of mine scratched his nav screen on his Phaeton trying to install a FM Modulator for an xm radio. Where can he find a replacement screen for this? He and I have looked into full Nav system replacement, but that seemingly requires the loss of two limbs to get one from VW.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
It is from what i can tell a Philips part. Part #: LTE072T-4404-3
Thx again..

Re: (PhaetonChix)

They sell a protective cover for it on ebay. Might hide the scratch. The spare navi I have is supposed to be toast. I don't know if it works but it does light up.

Re: NAV screen replacement (Boosted 20v)

The screen cannot be replaced as a stand-alone part, you need to replace the entire unit, which is quite expensive.
If you call Phaeton Customer Care, perhaps they can contact the company that rebuilds (overhauls) these components, and you might be able to find a less expensive way of getting it fixed that way. It's a long shot, but the phone number is toll free, so, you have nothing to lose...

Re: NAV screen replacement (PanEuropean)

Genuine geeks are often able to replace screens in devices that were not designed for screen replacement.
For instance, true Newton aficionados (the original Apple-invented PDA, circa 1992) keep their machines alive by replacing the original touch screens.
Similarly, LCD flat screens (such as the screens on laptops and flat computer monitors) are generally supposed to die once their neon-tube white backlights die. Young geeks, however, routinely are able to open the monitor and replace the "unreplaceable" backlights.

Re: PC

I am not interested in dispatching my spare to someone (a friend of an unknown poster) who accidently or perhaps foolishly scratched his. I bought it to "research" doing mods on it.

Re: NAV screen replacement (PanEuropean)

guys i appreciate the comments. I have found a Philips number on the screen (LTE072t-4404-3) and have contacted Philips Customer Service. However the techs so far I have email corespnded with are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
He may have to bite the bullet and order a new one.

Thanks again

Elton:
You might want to keep an eye on eBay, especially German eBay (www.ebay.de). Usually a used nav unit comes up for sale about once a month or so - they typically sell for between $200 and $400, with no guarantee at all that they work, but the screen would probably be suitable for use as a donor.
