get rid of rear muffler?

do 92 mk2 jettas have one or two mufflers?
is one a resonator and one a muffler
the reason i ask is my rear muffler fell off today and i wanted to just replace it with a straight pipe out the back.
would it sound like poop?
good idea or bad?

its fairly loud. i ran that way for some time.

you can eliminate the first one in the line, but it will alter the sound of the system. I have a gutted cat, no resonator, and a stupid muffler that I wont name. its too loud and annoying, and now the muffler split open. I just ordered a new muffler and having a full cat back 2.5 system made at the end of the week...

I just switched to a slightly bigger center resonator (stock Bosal one was also straight through to my surprise), and am in the process of running the pipe out the back. I'll let you know what it sounds like when I get it buttoned up...

I had a Fox before this with a TT system and replaced the Dynomax at the back with a cherrybomb resonator, and I loved how it sounded (quiet, but very raw rally at throttle)

Same thing happened on my mk3 it was an 8v and didn't get much louder so I left it alone. Just a little more resonant so it sounded a bit throatier.

Judging by my first A2, which had a big rust hole in the bottom of the rear muffler, it's not unbearably loud -- but it's pretty loud. Might be to your liking, maybe not.
