Might have a lead on a 6sp GTO w/ 350hp motor. However, I've been used to 4 cylinder sticks all my life. Is the GTO's going to be substantially stiffer?
Although some like a stiff clutch - I am not one of those

It may be a bit stiff if you're used to economy cars. Usually sports cars have a stiff clutch. I don't know what it would be like on the GTO though since GM wants it to be a touring car. I'm sure someone more useful then me will chime in shortly.

It will be stiffer.
Due to the heavy duty nature of the clutch pack itself. Of course its needed to sustain abuse from driving a 350 hp & high torque car. I'd say buy it and get used to it. You'll like it.

It's not bad at all. The only cars I'd worry about would the Viper and pre-'05 Mustangs. The Mustangs had a clutch pedal made out of granite.

I like a stiff clutch pedal. It gives me reassurance that the clutch is going to hold even if I do something stupid (high rpm drop clutch maneuver for example)
If a heavy clutch is an issue, you might start putting the vehicle in neutral and releasing the clutch when at stoplights.

If you're used to a VW? Yes it'll feel stiff, if you're used to most any other performance car? It should feel relatively light. Surprisingly the cutch pedal on a WRX is heavier.

The way poster's respond, the more clutch feel you have equals more character and soul in a car. So basically what I'm saying is...the GTO has more soul then a VW.

Its not that bad. It grabs funny and has a short travel, but it doesnt seem that heavy.

Re: (Nourdmrolnmt)

I always find that clutches are something you get used to really quick... For example, in my old Galant VR4, I found the clutch to be just fine. Then I test drove a GTI 1.8T, and that thing felt like it was barely there... After driving it for a few years, it became second nature.
Your left foot will get used to anything, even a Lambo

I've haven't driven a stock GT so you're probably right. The one I drove for 2 weeks had a Centerforce unit in it.

I just took a test-drive in a 06' GTO 6 speed and the clutch was not that stiff.

thanks for the input
tried the car out today, and although the clutch was better than expected - the shifting absolutely sucked. it seemed very vague, rubbery, and very long shifts. This is 2006 - come on people....

besides getting in a p-i-s-s-i-n-g match with auto vs. stick - and lower gas mileage, any bad things about the auto 350hp gto?

The auto will be the 4L60E, not sure if the last 6.0L GTOs got the 4L65E. The 6 speed needs a quickshift kit, not sure if it fixes it completely but I've been told it really helps. The auto is so-so, my former V6 Commodore wagon had the 4L60E and it was very average. Drive the auto and see how you like it. Personally I would go 6 speed with quickshift and still have change over the auto. Just watch the clutch system, I know a couple of LS1 6 speeds, which uses the same setup, which have had numeros clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder failures.
