Can anyone tell me what it should be..a few people told me to take the 16" pressure of 32lbs and add 2-3lbs for each +1 upsize? is this right? 36-38lbs?? I'm running brand new Kuhmo AST's all season with a treadwear of 420 CRAZY!.... Thanks everyone as always!!... I'll post pics of the new rims/tires as soon as I can get a dig pic of my passat.. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: right tire pressure on new 225/40/18's? on B6.. (misel00)

Simple...look on the inside of the driver's door jam. I would get up and walk outside and take a look for you but I'm going to bed. Good luck.

There is no logic to this "a few people" statement. Start with the recommended pressure listed on the car, increase to your preference of feel and don't exceed the tires marked maximum. The pressure has very little to do with the wheel or tire size.

FWIW, my 2.0T came with 16" alloys and the sticker inside the driver's door only shows 16" pressures. He's probably in the same situation and legitimately looking for the factory recommended pressure for 18" wheels.
It would seem to be a good idea if we could gather pictures of the 3 factory stickers, 16", 17" and 18" for reference.
Here is the 16" sticker:

can someone Please tell me pressure..... On their 18's??? Seems like 40 is high on the 17's/// It must matter what PSI you put in the tire since it will effect handling, road noise, gas mileage and wear,..Anyone else..Please chime in? Thanks

37 PSI for the front and rear. Its 34 PSI for my spare, which is a 16"

Apparently VW wants pretty close to 40psi, as the TPMS sends a nasty-gram to the MFD when the pressure drops to about 35psi, as I discovered a bit ago.

Re: (tbcB5)

whats the diffrence in what the tire manufacture recommends and the factory
i thought all tires had there recommended PSI on them.. ??

Re: (onequickg60)

they onlyput the "max" tire pressure on their tires.. so with these Khumo AST's I really didin't know where to go for approapriate pressure// But it sounds like 37 is the VA # for the FActory 18's....

I'm running 38-40 on mine. The OEM recommended pressure isn't gospel. They're trying to strike a compromise between, comfort, safety, road noise and handling. I've always run stock plus 2-4 psi with no problems.

The max pressure stamped on the tire means nothing other than the pressure not to exceed. The tire pressure on the door jam is vehicle specific based on weight and what the engineers deemed as the best compromise. So, reference to what's on the door jam and +/- based on taste and vehicle dynamic preferences, but do not exceed what's stamped on the tire. Get it?

Re: (misel00)

I just picked up an 07 Passat 2.0 manual with the package two sport - 18s - recommendation for tire pressure - 35 psi all four tires, over inflation is one of the biggest causes of uneven tread wear on tires.

ok now i'm confused..someone wrote that on this thread wrote their 18's were 37 from the factory now yours are saying 35???? how can that be..ALos i'm very concerned with road noise.. Do you go higher for less road noise? or lower on the pressure? THank you all!

Same here. Just got the message about low tyre pressure on the MFD. For 4mo 3.6 the spec is to have 40/40 and I measured 35 to 35.5 psi for each tyre. So there's a few psi 'window' when the TPMS does not complain.
(tyres are stock 17s - 235-45/17)

Yep, mine is 37 psi but I have a sedan. The wagon must be different.
