When to start the car this morning and it wouldn't even turn.
Check battery and it's 12V+. Then I smelled fuel and saw that
the fuel rail was wet near/around the #1 injector. Thank God it didn't start.
Is this a common leak? Any suggestions what it is, how to fix it?
Thanks,
Rey

Re: fuel leak near #1 injector (1.8L 8v) - common? (elRey)

Rey,
I have a fuel rail for sale if you need one. Sometime they crack. Also the O-rings can sometime leak where the injecter goes into the rail. If you want it let me know.

Why it wouldn't start?.... I'd have to say Divine intervention!
It started without touching a thing about an hour later when I wanted to watch where the fuel was coming from.
Seems to come from main fuel feed line when the pump runs but injectors are off.

Is this Digi 2?
The fuel line to the fuel rail commonly crack. I even think there was a recall on them.
Buy the set (return and feed).

'90 Jetta GL... I don't know about Digi 2...
Where would you suggest I buy from ? Local auto store? VW dealer?
Online? I need them today.

i feel your pain buddy. i was driving mine and smelled fuel. thank god i caught it and poured some water on it before i blew up. my motor is a g60, same concept, same rail and all, just charged. i eneded up pulling the fuel rail off of my car, no cracks, was leaking in the same place you are talking about.
i ordered the billet aluminum fuel rail from bahn brenner just to be safe so it does not crack later on, and im replacing all of the hose to the rail. while im at it i might as well do the o rings. im not sure if this is a common issue, but its funny that your thread popped up right about the same time i had my issue.

i have also been reading up ion this in the corrado forums. it seems that sometimes the clamp on the line can in a sense, "pinch" or create a tiny channel where the line is clamped, causing there to be an area for the line to leak. Im not sure if that makes sense, but im going to replace it with quality band hose clamps so i dont run into this issue.

This made perfect sense after seeing the clamp they used.
I believe this was the cause.

Fixed... hopefully.
$4 5/16" X 1ft fuel line hose and 2 clamps from Autozone.
10 min and it's dry.
Thank the Lord.

Make sure you got high pressure hose for fuel injection or it could get ugly quick...

It had the word 'injector' on it.
