So I go out to my car today and the air bag light is on it blinked and I thought it would go out but god damn it it didn't. What could this be something serious or something I need to get looked at by a shop? Any help please let me know.

hahaha, yes. your drivers airbag will go off at some inappropriate random time.

...as i have sudden memories of my old shop foreman dropping the SRS shock sensor and 3 off the airbags going off while he's lying across the driver seat. now THAT, was funny

Re: (beathookup)

You need to find someone with a VAG-COM to find out what the fault is. Don't take it to the dealer. Too much $$$. Once you have the fault code then you can figure out what needs to be fixed. Odds are it's a bad connection somewhere, or it could be a faulty component. Then you need to get that fixed.

don't guess..get it scanned....I'd hate to see you spend $$ on an inaccurate internet diag....and still have the issue.

FYI you can't scan (with VAGCOM) early airbag control modules or you will damage the sensor/module. Read up on the issue at http://www.ross-tech.com. You need to have it scanned by a dealer.

that is NOT tottally correct...per ROSS-TECH, the newest version of their software does work, but there are a few controllers that still do not.....get the # of the controller (they show you on the site) and see.
BTW - Most VW dealers USE VAGCOM, not 1551/1552/5051/5052 scanners, as the VAGCOM is much less $$$
Good luck!

Could be something as simple as a broken seatbealt wire or seatbelt latch.
I'd first start with checking out the seatbelt wiring and conector under the driver's seat. Mine had some broken wires. I fixed the wires but still need to take it to the dealer to clear the light. I had one of the airbag controllers that Ross-Tech recommended NOT to check out with the VAGCom
