my freind was tellin me about how this guy ran a hose from his air condisioning to his intake. when ever he wanted cold air he would just turn the ac on and the engine would get all the cold air it needed. is this true. has anyone done it?

it could be done, but would be redundant. Youd only get maybe 2 hp by running that air into the intake, probably less becuase its NOT that cold. Then considering the 15 hp it robs you of when its on, you'd be lossing (sp?) 13+ hp. NOT worth it.
What is neccessary for removing the compressor and A/C system without going into the dashboard. I am unfamiliar with the conversion from AC to non AC. Anyone?
yank the compresor and the lines from the engine bay and get a non AC belt form the dealer
Believe or not that was the only item that I got from the dealer that was not cheaper anywhere else. I think I payed 23 bucks. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
quote:

interesting. How much HP is realistic from this?
Oh......I need heat for the winter, though. I need the compressor

You'd get maybe 1/2 HP by pulling out the AC compressor. All you would be doing is reducing the parasitic drag of the pulley. On the other hand, you would be saving weight if you were to pull the items out.
You don't need the compressor for heat, by the way. Your car is heated by the heat that the engine gernerates during normal use.
I thought that I need the compressor for defrost but how would that make sense....that is why I have a heater core and fan. [wipe the crust out of my eye]. Hmmmmmmmmm...interesting. So, I can defrost in the winter without the compressor......sounds good....maybe it's time to get rid of that unsightly compressor!

Well you don't "need" the compressor for defrosting, but remember A/C stands for air conditioning (not air cooling) The dryer conditioned air comes out of the defrost (though hot). This quickly defrosts your window, and can even defrost when somewhat cold. In humid places like western washington, I'd like to have such a feature.

I agree. I will be keeping the compressor......I need it in NE. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

There must be some scientific rule for this, but I would guess that it is mechanically impossible that you could use energy to create cold air and then get more energy (power) back than it took to create the cold air in the first place.
Never mind that AC is horribly inefficient comapred to, say, heating.
