I bought a Royal Blue Pearl 2007 SE V6 Accord today, trading in my '99 Passat GLS. My B5 has 116k miles on it and the Accord was just too good a deal to pass up for $21,300 including destination and dealer fees (over $500 below invoice of $21,043).
The SE V6 is the sweet spot in the Accord line, imo, and I bet their price will increase throughout the year as more people find out about them. This is the first year Honda has made the SE V6 and since Honda is retooling the Accord in 2008, this is the ONLY year it will be made before the remake comes out. I think that Honda finally broke the threshold of acceptable styling with the '07 model Accord. Handsome, understated, not flashy but definitely stylish. It's styling reminds me more of the B5 than the B6 does.
This Accord is about as close as I can get to the B5 Passat, both in price and feel. Since my wife and I will always love that car, that was one of my goals in buying our next car. I find it pretty amazing that I can get a car of this quality for this price, since I bought my Passat in 1999 for ~$21K (including destination and dealer fees) and that was a floor model with 5-6k miles on it.
I am sad that I just couldn't find a VW that met my (and my wife's) needs at a good price. The B6 Passat just doesn't have it, IMHO--not in styling, reliability, handling (down a notch from the B5), or value for the dollar. I test drove the GLI, and that's just not the car for me or my wife at ages 55-60. It didn't feel as roomy or comfortable as the Accord for longish drives and the visibility/sightlines were poor. (But it was alot of fun to drive!) And there's no way I could get much closer than $3000 (more) in price if I went for the GLI DSG.
I hope to own a VW diesel at some point in the future, but that won't be for several years now that I have the Honda.

Nice!
Honda's are hard to beat. You know its funny, the Accord V6 is actually VERY competative (performance wise) to the Hemi Charger.
I just got a Honda Fit. This thing feels like a Go-Kart!

I do have one issue with the Accord, its huge gaguges. Besides that, nice buy.

What's wrong with big gauges?

the new accords are so nice, it's ridiculous.
i drove an '04 Coupe EX V6 6M with all the options... God it was a nice car. Tons of punch, ran on 87, good fuel economy, flawless interior.
Kind of dull though! But what a nice car. was too expensive for me, even used. you got a killer price.

Re:

I had an Accord V6 as a rental for a couple weeks after I lost my Jetta. I found that the overwhelming feeling was that it was 'smooth'. Everything was very light and effortless, sort of like an old Buick (with the exception of the steering, which was light, but no where near as light as the old GMs). I could see how that would appeal to a lot of people. It wasn't for me personally just because I like that little bit of harshness that comes with a german car, just that feeling that you driving a car that is firmly planted on the road.
Also, about the price, wow. I am really impressed that Honda is selling that car at that price. While there are a lot of other cars that I would rather own from a driving perspective, that price is hard to ignore. Best of luck with the new car!

Re: Re: (Froster)

Since I took the time to look up what the SE V6 trim level has, I might as well share...

Yes, when you get a non-EX accord V6 - you get basicly all the stuff that is supposed to be in the EX, without the price!!
Cause the V6 comes with all the tcs and the alloy wheels, and a bunch of other nifty stuff. Like the 6 disc changer that should not be there, yet it is!!!

Nice buy! I'd get one in a second!!

One thing to watch on the Accord - the instrument cluster is illuminated during the day with bright backlighing LEDs. At dusk, it makes you think your headlights are on when they are not. Keep an eye on this - I see these generation Accords driving around with no headlights on in the city all the time!! (yeah - there's DRL this year - but that's not good enough!!)

reliability,
.

I'm curious to this as the MKV's seem to be more reliable in general than any MKIV car. Seeing as you did own a b5 (and enjoyed it) aren't the b6's more reliable?
