Re: Front wheel drive Mustang...... in the snow (rsclyrt)

Atleast they are prepared.. Gotta give them credit for that. Everytime a big snow storm hits here in Toronto and the roads turn to ice, you should see all the unprepared people in their RWD sports cars on the side of the road..

Re: Front wheel drive Mustang...... in the snow (rsclyrt)

Every time I see this pic (welcome to REPOSTLAND, but I digress) I wonder if they actually did that on purpose.
I can imagine that a 'Stang, with all that engine weight up front, would push pretty severely in the slick stuff. Maybe they put the chains on the front to get some steering traction?
Honestly, I'm impressed they even had chains to begin with. I think I've seen chains installed about 4 times in my life, all of those being on county plow or emergency vehicles. Hell, the ambulances around here mostly use the "chains on a disc" thing that swings out under the axle and tucks up when not needed.
Meh.

They are banned here... we get a LOT of snow and ice, but the chains just tear up the ashphalt, and while they help people stop great, they only end up getting rear ended by the guy behind them who is still riding on bald all seasons.

I recall someone coming up with a pretty believeable explanation for this in one of the other threads on this pic......I can't remember it though.

Maybe that steering and braking is as important as traction to get going?

Maybe he'd just driven up a mountain to go skiing or something (with only 1 set of chains), and now it was time to come back down so he needed steering and braking instead.

Yup...and for the same reason you want to put brand new tires in the front rather than the rear (given the same size for all four, that is)...so you have control over hte car...getting going is simple, but keeping it going in the direction you want after going is the harder part.

answer me this dont snow chains come in sets of four genraly?

I've always seen them in sets of 2...because they are intended for the drive wheels.
