I LOVE the look of the 1.8t GLI's, they come with all sorts of goodies, but now that i own a VR6, i dont think i want to own the 1.8.....
so why did VW never make a VR6 GLI? (meaning the "real" GLI as i call them, the ones like the 1.8t that come with the recaro's and trim kit, and BBS wheels.. etc)

Re: GLI models (MontrealAtNight)

No in the US mid year after were only 1.8T
04-4.5 VR6
4.5-05 1.8T

there are 2004.5 2.8 Gli ...... rare though

Those are 2004s, not 2004.5s, and they don't come with the body kit/recaros/RC's, just the chrome trim and updated taillights.

Re: GLI models (DaLLaSJeTTaVdUb)

Been thinking about the OP's first question, and realized that VW probably used the 1.8T for two reasons: (1) it's cheaper than a vr6, and (2) the 1.8T has so many more potential bolt-on mods due to the turbo and related hardware, which would appeal to the same type of customer as the body kit and other goodies.
Seems to me that it was marketed towards people who didn't own VWs before, as hardcore vw enthusiasts would at least want the vr6 as an option (but that's just my opinion after owning two vr6s).

best answer yet... seems to makes sense.

i agree with the above poster.
When i bought my GLS 1.8T at 2004 (1 month before GLI 1.8T came out ... I was a VW noob...

10000 times) The GLI VR6 were about 3 grand more with almost the same options (leather, winter package, and what not...

again for not getting the rare 04 GLI VR6 when I had the chance too).
That being said, if they had a VR6 version of the GLI, it would've been close to 29K for a Jetta. I think at that price, ONLY enthusiats would buy 29K Jetta, kindda like the R32, and they probably wouldn't have sold as many as the 1.8T have done.
