Re: (mr.creative)

dont know aboot alabama but here in ga. if its 1986 or older you dont need a title. just a bill of sale. if you cant get it titled there mabey someone here can get it done for you. but if it is 83 or newer you will need an emissions if there in the 13 emission counties. you might be able to find out more here.

my 83 scirocco does not have a title and its not stolen. sometimes older cars wont have a title becouse people loose them. then they dont file for a new title and sell the car with a bill of sale. its real easy they regester the car in your name and its yours.

Nope, I am definitely registered.

She wants a VW, but many older VW's we've found are without titles. For instance, we almost bought a 78 rabbit at the junkyard, but for fear we couldn't register it..we left it be crushed..

Re: (XratedZ)

You can file for a replacement title, but you'll have to jump through a few hoops and spend a little money.
The deal goes something like you file for a replacement of lost title OR title to an abandoned vehicle at the local DMV, they give some paperwork to fill out and have notarized, you place an ad in the legal notice section of the local paper, when nobody responds to claim ownership within X number of days, you fill out some more paperwork, submit it to the state DMV, and they will then issue you a replacement title.
IIRC the process takes about 45 - 60 days and costs about 150.00 or so. See your local tag office / DMV for more details.

Re: (vr6swap)

i contacted the dvm there and this is what they ent back to me.
In order to title your vehicle in Alabama, we will need a copy of the current registration from Georgia. The vehicle will have to be here physically for us to verify the VIN. Whoever the vehicle is registered to will be the party who needs to come into our office. You also have to have insurance on the vehicle before registration

Re: (vinayak)

I think also a bill of sale. When I registered my car from NC to Bama, I had the bank fax my lean to the DOT, a proof of my insurance and then they made me go outside and phsyically write the VIN from my car onto the piece of paper... I thought it was funny they had me do that.
I http://****************.com/smile/emlove.gif Alabama DOT. Its so cheap no no inspections... word!

Hmmm, interesting. I just bought a Corrado from a local shop. It was last titled in Louisiana supposedly. Does that mean I would have to put an ad in the paper where it was last titled? Or around here?

This strategy seems a bit easier. Except I'm not sure if the previous owner even had any registration on the car here in Alabama..

Advice on how I may title my corrado so I could revive it?
Thanks for the replies already everyone http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: (vinayak)

The previous owner of the car did not have the title and so consequently I don't have the title. This is the problem. The title has been lost over this Corrado's 16 year life. I'm in need of a recovery strategy or sadly another Corrado will get parted out..

I think titles suck

ME TOO!!!
Good luck on getting that taking care of.
Speaking of cars with no titles we got that passat running perfect now and are tearing it apart today and tomorrow. Engine should be going into my car starting next week.

Wouldn't it be easier to see if the guy you are trying to purchase it from would get it titled in GA for you provided you pay some of the fees.
